Don’t Miss The Miracle

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out, where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

My Takeaways

Something Old

When we obey with belief

  • Our “nets” will be so full they will tear. Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (NIV)
  • We will be humbled. Luke 5:8
  • We will be awestruck by the Lord.  Luke 5:8
  • Others will also be amazed by the Lord.  Luke 5:10
  • We will want to leave everything to follow him.  Luke 5:11

I can approach Jesus with “leprosy.”

  1. Great lesson, Wendy! We should always keep believing God! Quick question that I think I know the answer to but wanted to double check here: Why does the spelling of “Lord” change from caps to lower case in the New Testament?

  2. Can anyone explain why Mark 2:13 speaks of Levi…..Luke 5:27 speaks of Levi….
    but Matthew 9:9 says ” a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth”?

  3. I loved today’s lesson-especially where Wendy said “sometimes we have to really go deep to encounter God”. So many good takeaways in the reading. Luke 5:38-39. “New wine must be stored in new wine skins. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine “the old is just fine” they say.” The old is no longer fine. And I can’t keep trying to pour new wine into the old skin. Thank the Lord that he made a way. Thank you Jesus that you came for the sick-to heal us. Just one touch, like he reached out and touched the man with leprosy – that’s all that is needed. And he’s not afraid to touch the diseased places in my heart – in fact his response when I ask him is “I am willing”. But I need to ask him-I need to stop saying “the old is just fine”. It’s not the healthy that need a doctor but the sick. Jesus doesn’t want my “perfection“ he wants my brokenness he wants my real-ness. He wants my old wine skin

  4. Luke 5:1-11 – First I noticed that the people were pressing in to hear Jesus preach God’s Word. Do I press in to read and hear God’s Word? I also saw that Peter didn’t really understand Jesus’ command and it didn’t make sense to him but he obeyed and was blown away by the result. How often do i miss the miraculous because I didn’t obey the commands of God that don’t make sense or don’t seem logical?

    Matthew 9:9-13 – Jesus called all sorts of men to be his disciples and to save. He was more concerned about his disciples showing mercy than giving sacrifices. Same is true today…He wants me to show love and compassion to all not just offer my tithe and lip service to him.

  5. My Takeaways: Faith

    Something Old: Luke 5:18-20, Mark 2:2-12 The power of faith was revealed in the miracles I read about today. What amazing faith these individuals had. I was so impressed with the amazing friends the paralyzed man had. The faith of his friends showed through their actions allowing the paralyzed man to respond to what Jesus asked of him. I wonder how many opportunties I miss out on in bringing others to Christ by not putting my faith into action.

    Something New: Luke 5:11 “And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.” I didn’t realize until today that this was the second time Jesus called on Peter, Andrew, James and John. I always thought the first call was the final call, but reading the Bible in chronological order helped me to realize that they went back to fishing, after they were called. After watching Jesus, witnessing His many miracles and hearing him at the synagogue they too recognized Jesus for who he was and stopped working as fishermen to follow Him for good. The disciples were just like us today. They didnt have it all together either. It was a process just as it is for Christians today.

    Something To Do: Commit my life to Jesus for today and in the future. Put all my faith in Him.
