Believe Before The Miracle
Jesus asked, “Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?”
John 4:48
My Takeaways
Something Old
Do I believe God before the miracles or because of them?
- “Supply thou the defects of my faith.” (Barnes)
- “While men have no faith, they are unconscious of their unbelief; but, as soon as they get a little faith, then they begin to be conscious of the greatness of their unbelief.” (Spurgeon)
- Only those with faith recognize their lack of faith.
Something New
Luke 4:22
“Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
Jesus is usually referred to as Mary’s son.
Something to Do
Pray daily for God to increase and complete my faith.

Behind in the study, but this was exactly what we needed to hear today on 2 December 2017!
Jesus’ healing of Peters mother in law stood out to me today. As soon as she was well she got up and served them by making a meal. I was challenged to make service my first response to God’s work in my life. I am so often a taker from God without being a giver back to Him. I want my first response to his work in my life to be service.
Also, have always lived Jesus’ examples of getting up early to go and be with God alone. This has been a discipline in my life and is such a sweet time.
My Takeaways:The Good News
Something Old: Jesus started His message with the same message that John the Baptist did. “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” (Matthew 4:17b) “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News” (Mark 1:15b) All these years the message hasn’t changed. God still wants me to turn from my sinful ways and follow him. So what’s the Good News? Jesus Christ, His death on the cross, and resurrection. His promise of His Holy Spirit to all who believe and of course the fact that he is coming back and will restore a relationship for me with Him forever. All I need to do is turn from myself and turn my life in the direction and control of Jesus and I too can have what John the Baptist and Jesus was preaching about.
Something New: ” I must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God I. in other towns, too, because that is why I was send.” (Luke 4:43) What an awesome life we have today to be living in the Kingdom of God now, because the Holy Spirit lives in the hearts of all of us who believe. But there is more to come in the future. What great hope that gives me knowing that Jesus will return to reign over a perfect Kingdom, where sin and evil will no longer exist.
Something To Do: Spread the Good News “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
