Send Shame Away

Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the LORD your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced.
Joel 2:26

My Takeaways

Something Old

And what a difference between man’s sin and God’s forgiveness! For this one man, Adam, brought death to many through his sin. But this one man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness to many through God’s mercy. Adam’s one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead. The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all, but all who will take God’s gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life because of this one man, Jesus Christ.  Yes, Adam’s sin brought punishment to all, but Christ’s righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live.  Adam caused many to be sinners because he disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because he obeyed. (TLB) Romans 5:15-21

  • Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame. Gen. 2:25
  • At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. Gen. 3:7
  • You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed. (NIV) Joel 3:26

Something New

The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you.” Joel 2:25

God sent the army against His people. Yes. God send things our way to bring us back His way.

The shame that is, doesn’t have to stay.

Something to Do

Never live disgraced again.

  1. Thanks Wendy for today’s lesson! I can’t believe we finished all of the Old Testament already. Wow, it went by so fast. I am so excited to start reading the New Testament. My Something to do- is to have God have access to my heart to purify it and make it clean and make me more like Him.

  2. Malachi 2:10 stood out to me. We are all of the same Father so why do I criticize others so quickly? I need to be more loving and less judgmental.

Mal. 2:16 was the reminder to stay faithful in my marriage and guard my heart because god hates divorce!

Mal 3:9-11 I can’t out give God. It says to test him in this. He gives generously to those who gives generously to him.

Joel 2:12&13 stood out to me. We must turn and repent to god while there is still time. I need to be bold in sharing the gospel. God longs to relent and not punish but people have to come to him in repentance. He won’t force them but he is so merciful and gracious to all who turn to Him. Let me be bold to share his heart and salvation this week.

  3. Malachi reminds us, “Are we not all children of the same Father? Are we not all created by the same God?” God has created us to love Him and each other. We are all connected and should be faithful to our God and to each other. (What a good lesson for this time in history when people are so divided. )
And then in chapter 3 “I am the Lord, and I do not change…Now return to me, and I will return to you.” We are the ones who become separated from God by our sin. God never changes. We need to confess, accept grace and forgiveness, and be reunited with God. And tomorrow we begin reading about God’s awesome gift to His people that will allow all of this to happen! I am very excited to begin the New Testament again!

  4. My Takeaways:
We did it girls! We completed the Old Testament. We stayed focused and accomplished our mission. What encouragement I have received over the past 9 months as God revealed to me who He is and how He deals with fallen sinners. But through it all He has offered me great hope. Hope for what’s to come in having a Savior. Hope of living in a world where sin is no more. I can’t wait to begin the New Testament and learn how God will reveal himself to me, yet again, through the ministry of His son Jesus Christ. What excitement awaits me in the days ahead.

Something Old: “Turn to me now, while there is time! Give me your heart. Come with fasting, weeping, and morning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief; instead, tear your hearts. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful. He is filled with kindness and is eager not to punish you.” Joel 2:12 -13. A good reminder for me to trust and obey God while I can. I never know when my last breath will be. I must never let anything get in my way of turning to God, loving Him, following Him, serving Him and praising Him every moment of my life.

Something New: I closed out the Old Testament with Joel. A phophet who reinforces to me the importance of living a life with God in the center. His message is simple- chose God and receive His blessings, ignore God and face destruction. My life is in God’s hands.

Something To Do: Love and trust God to guide me in my decisions.
