Live By Faith Not By Sight

There were 44,760 capable warriors in the armies of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
1 Chronicles 5:18

My Takeaways

Something Old

The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said, “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon- the land the LORD subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.” Numbers 32:1-5

“They would have the best land, not considering that it lay most exposed. The desire of earthly objects draws to a distance from God’s ordinances, and prepares men for destruction.”
~ Matthew Henry

Something New

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  Romans 12:2

What patterns of this world am I conforming to?

Something to Do

Live by faith, not by sight.

  1. Thanks for the lesson today Wendy. My something to do- Is to walk by faith not by sight. To trust in God more and have more faith in God especially when I can’t see what is up ahead in my life or around the corner.

  2. My Takeaways: Genealogies

Something Old: A lot of genealogies in todays reading. Whenever I come to these I think, here we go again. But, I do know if it’s in the Bible it must be imporant for me to know otherwise God would have never put it in. Genealogies help me understand that the Bible is true, it’s a history book written about real people. Also it helps me to follow the line of Jesus. It proves that yes, He was a descendant of David. The Bible is true. Genealogies help put events in order. Knowing the genealogies I am sure aided in writing of the Chronological Bible. I need to spend more time in reading these genealogies instead of just skimming through them because much can be learned.

Something New: While reading through these genealogies I noticed many names that are mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. Upon closer look I realized that each name has a story. Many life lessons can be learned through these stories. Unfaithfulness in one generation had an impact on the generations to come. The descendants of those who intermarry with unbelievers eventually take on the names and identity of unbelievers. It appears to be much better to begin poorly and then well; then to begin well and then poorly. If I want to believe it or not, my life does impact those who follow after me. I don’t want to live carelessly today, in doing so my family tree will suffer. The size of my estate will not matter to anyone in my genealogy, but what will matter is how much I communicated and lived for God, and took the time to share what I knew with those who I love. To be truely great is to have a true heart for God.

Something To Do: Remember my true purpose in this life is to please and obey God. God alone examines my heart and determines my final standing. The only reputation I need to worry about is my reputation with God so when others read my name in my genealogy it will reveal stories of my faithfulness to God.
