Big Things For God

They said to me, “Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gate have been destroyed by fire.”
Nehemiah 1:3

  1. I love the encouragement that speaks from this lesson! Thank you Wendy, I will keep this in my heart. Anything we do for God is great… I needed to hear that again as I often doubt whether I am qualified or worthy enough to really do great things for God. But by truly trying to live according to His guidelines, seeking and living the truth in all that I do, giving thanks to God and honour Him in my words and actions, that is enough. Raising my kids with knowledge of God and His unconditional love, being a Faithful wife to my husband, a reliable friend .. These are all great things if done for God and through his strength and love.

  2. I loved seeing through ezra and now in Nehemiah that god’s gracious hand was upon them. It’s only be god’s gracious hand we accomplish anything for Him. I also loved what Ezra prayed in 9:8 that he was in a moment of Gods grace. So thankful for God’s grace on me!!

  3. My Takeaways: Rebuilding Lifes

Something Old: So today I continue to read of Ezra and am also introduced to Nehemiah. Both men were working hard at rebuilding the lifes of the exiles. Ezra was busy with their spiritual well being while Nehemiah was busy with the physical aspect.

Somrthing New: Both Ezra and Nehemiah responded similarly in making things right. They both wept, fasted and prayed to God confessing the sins of the people, then they took action to make things right. True repentance is always more then just confession it has to also include change attitudes and behavior, something that I need to be reminded of today. It is interesting that as the people were recommitting to obedience and righteousness, the walls of the city were being rebuilt. Just like He did for the exiles, God is able to restore and rebuild my life. I am never so far away from God that I cannot be restored. True repentance is all that is required. No matter how far I have strayed or how long it has been since I have worship God he is able to restore my relationship to him and rebuild my life.

Something To Do: Pray for the forgiveness of my sins by using Ezra and Nehemiah example.
    1) Recognize that sin is serious.
    2) Remember that my sin always has affects on others.
    3) Realize that I am not sinless.
    4) Know that God’s love and mercy has spared me, even though I have done nothing to deserve it.
    5) Ask God for fresh power to live for him.
