Something Old
Oh my, do I love this story!
Something New
- For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (NIV)
John 5:21 - The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life. (NIV)
John 6:63 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (NIV)
John 10:10 - Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. (NIV)
John 11:25
Something to Do
I’m so thankful for the new life in my dead bones.
MY Takeaways: Dry Bones
Something Old: As I read the beginning of our lesson today I couldn’t help but hear the song from my childhood. You know how it goes. Ezekiel cried, “Dem dry bones!”
Ezekiel cried, “Dem dry bones!”
Ezekiel cried, “Dem dry bones!”
“Oh, hear the word of the Lord.” The foot bone connect to the leg bone…etc. Well I certainly understand more today about this song then I did as a child. Ezekiel 37:6 “I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” This passage is not about resurrection from physical death, but rebirth from spiritual death brought about by divine power. Only through Jesus Christ can I, who am dead in my sins, have a new spiritual birth. This is the promise of the New Covenant found in the New Testament. This is what Jesus talked to Nicodemus about. Jesus explained that Nicodemus’s new birth could only occur by the Son, by the cross, and by faith.Only when a person trust Christ, are they born again and receive eternal and spiritual life, God’s kind of life! Jesus can bring life to “Dem Dry bones” to spiritually dead people. Now that’s some Good News!
Something New: Well Jeremiah and Ezekiel did a lot of preaching during their day. Their Ministries were eally complete failures. They were ministering to unfaithful people. They were faithful to the Living God, “I the Sovereign Lord have spoken!” These prophets were faithful in telling the people not necessarily what they wanted to hear, but what they had to hear. By knowing of their ministry I am able to understand the heart of God for His people. I have a better understanding of God’s mercy-thanks to the prophets of the Old Testament.
Something To Do: Pray for the renewal of our country. Let God put his spirit back into his country. No matter how “dry” our country may be, remember HE can restore anything. Pray and pray again.
