RTW August 27

NOTE:  Jeremiah wrote Lamentations, not Solomon.  Oops, sorry for the confusion in the beginning of the video.

Just Admit It And Move On

We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not forgiven us.
Lamentations 3:42

Something Old

Lamentations 3:39-42

Instead of complaining about the situation Jeremiah gives us some action steps

  • Test and examine my ways
  • Turn back to the LORD
  • Testify to Him concerning our rebellious and sinful ways

Something New

Something to Do

Let God test and examine. Admit and move on.

  1. I love that in all the sorrow there are still promises in Lamentations. I love Lamentations 3:31-33: For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love. For he does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow” And further: Lamentations 3:55-57: But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit. You heard me when I cried “Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!” Yes, you came when I called: you told me, “Do not fear”.
This is so beautiful. I live this now. I admitted my sin and repented and now I am moving on. With consequences yes, but I can bear with them because I know I am not alone. I love that God abandons no one for ever because He is love. His love never fails and even though I and many others have to suffer consequences He tells us to not be afraid. Because He is there with us through it all. And that makes the load lighter… I am so glad that Gods mercies are fresh and new each day and every morning!!!

    1. Beautifully stated. I was drawn to many of the same verses. I love that the is still hope amid all this destruction.

  2. My Takeaways: God and Sin

Something Old: Lamentations 2:14 “Your phophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from Exile by pointing out your sins. Instead, they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope.” The repentance of sin would have prevented the judgment of God from falling on His people; but the false prophet painted false pictures. I think many in our society are guilty of the same type teaching. People will not repent of their deeds if they do not know that they’re wrong. When the Gospel message, leaves out the reality of sin, it’s a false gospel. To promise eternal salvation apart from genuine brokenness and repentance is wrong. I must never be guilty of this! If I am going to share the gospel with others, like Jesus commands, then I must include exposure to sin. Without one’s acknowledgment of sin, one has no need for the Savior. If one does not first know that he is lost, then he will not believe that he needs to be found. So when I share the message of Christ with others, I can never skip over the reality of my inability to please a holy God in my fallen, corrupt, and wicked nature.
I can’t worry about hurting feelings or upsetting people. I must remember that had the false prohets taught the truth to the people in Judah and exposed them to their sins, the nation would have been saved. In order to open people’s eyes to Christ today is no different. I must let them realize the need they have for Christ. Before people will understand and accept the good news, they must first hear the bad news, that in their sin, they cannot please a holy God. I don’t ever want to be guilty of painting false pictures like the phophets in Jeremiah’s day.

Something New: Lamentations 3:23 “Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”
God is always willing to respond to me when I ask. God’s mercy and love are greater than any sins I may have. His promises are true. He promises to punish disobedience, but also promises future blessings. Daily trusting in Gods faithfulness assures me of his promises for my future.

Something To Do: Spread the good news to everyone that will listen, but don’t leave out the bad news.

Hey, with school starting back up I thought this was a pretty made a lot of sense. Not sure where the quote came from, but here it is: “Don’t skip class when the teacher is your Savior.”

    1. Love the quote!

And love the verse, “His mercies begin afresh each morning.”

Praying for all educators and all children at this time of year. Fresh new beginnings and the certainty that God is walking right along side of us as we begin to form our school families.
