Why Won’t God talk to Me?

“Son of man, tell the leaders of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: How dare you come to ask me for a message? As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I will tell you nothing.'”
Ezekiel 20:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

He gave life through His decrees. (Ezekiel 20:11)

He gave rest through the Sabbath. (Ezekiel 20:12)

Something New

  • If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.  Psalm 66:18
Some translations use the words “cherished sin….” Oh, mercy.
  • People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Psalm 28:13

Something to do

Face my disobedience and sin.

  1. My Takeways: Monotonous

Something Old: God has been slow to anger, compassionate, asking – no, begging – people to repent.  And they have not.  Things just keep getting worse and worse and worse.
I feel like I have read similar passages for quite some time now. It is getting harder and harder for me to pull nuggets, without sounding redundant. Jersalems sins have become over whelming (chapter 22:1-16) Consequences for my sins are real! Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Something New- Ezekiel 21:6-7 “Son of man, groan before the people! Groan before them with bitter anguish in a broken heart. When they ask why you are groaning, tell them, I groan because of the terrifying news I have heard. When it comes true, the boldest heart will melt with fear…” How sad was it to read this today. I think God wanted his messenger, Ezekiel, to show some emotion. I think He wanted the people to see through Ezekiel how God himself was feeling- His heart was breaking for His people. This judgment was certain, and it broke the heart of prophets like Ezekiel and Jeremiah to consider what great devastation would come upon the people and the land. I love this song by Casting Crowns, todays read reminded me of it, check it out https://youtu.be/UL9U5mQKQLU

Something To Do: Give God all of my life and all of my devotion. Choose God over everything else
