Planting and Plowing

Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.
Hosea 10:12b

My Takeaways

Something Old

God is begging His people to be loyal to Him.

O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall. Hosea 14:8-9

Something New

When I am willing to plow, God will shower with righteousness.

A shower makes things grow… but nothing grows in hard soil.

  • Since fallow ground is hard, it probably doesn’t “want” to be broken up. It is hard and compact, and the blade of the plow hurts as it cuts through. If the fallow ground could talk, it would probably cry out when it is plowed. Yet it is useless as ground as long as it is fallow.
  • Ground that hasn’t been plowed for more than a year It is ground that is hard and stubborn, resistant to the seed. It does little good to sow seed on fallow ground; it must be broken up first.
  • Sometimes when the word of God goes forth and seems to have little effect, it is because it falls on fallow ground – the hard ground that will not allow the seed of the word to penetrate and become fruitful. – Guzik

Something to Do

Let the Holy Spirit plow!

  1. My Takeaways: Hosea continues His warnings

Something Old: So we finished the book of Hosea today. A good lesson to take from Hosea.. The Israelite were warned time after time, but refused to listen resulting in harden hearts. They chose to live in darkness. They had it all, but over time they threw it all away by refusing to listen. As I have said before it’s a slow fade, but it’s never too late, God is always gracious and loving and wants us to repent. Just like He wanted Isreal to do.

Something New: Hosea 14:9 “Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.” Beautiful words. God is always willing to forgive me. I must not forget His love, but in the process remember not to forget His wrath against my sins either. Forgiveness: God judges the sin and shows his mercy to the sinner.

Something To Do: Always be willing to come to God, He alone can give me a renewed life.
