After This…
After this, the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat.
2 Chronicles 20:1
My Takeaways
Something Old
How do I respond to “After this” attacks?
If we are of no threat to him and his work, he will be not a threat us.
- Seek God (darash: seek, tread or beat a path. (frequent a place)
- Fast and pray
- Believe the Lord for victory
- Praise Him before the victory, as well as after the victory.
We don’t get to design the victory.
God’s idea of victory may look different than our idea of victory.
Something New
We make the enemy mad when we do what we are supposed to be doing. (i.e. working in our calling and obeying the Lord)
Something to Do
Be a threat!
My Takeaways: More Battles
Something Old: I am having a hard time with my reading today. So many battles, prophets, wickedness, lies, etc. etc. But the general message I got was that God wants to be acknowledge. He is my ultimate leader. I cannot ignore God. When I do, everything begins to spiral downward.
Something New: Jehoshaphat’s prayer 2 Chronicles 20:6 “He prayed, O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty, no one can stand against you!” He did right in acknowledging God and realizing that only God could save the nation. He wasn’t afraid to completely depend on God and God alone.
Something To Do: God is sovereign over all things, including my life. I must focus entirely on God’s power rather than my own. I must come to him in every situation and know he controls everything. Remember his promises and know he will always take care of me when I follow his ways.
I agree – the Old Testament is sometimes difficult. There is so much death, evil, fighting, etc. It really makes us long for the New Testament, for the new covenant, for peace and love, and ultimately for Jesus. It helps us understand why the world longed for a savior.
You are so right!
