Serve By Appointment

Then David divided the Levites into divisions named after the clans descended from the three sons of Levi- Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
1 Chronicles 23:6

My Takeaways

Something Old

Each person has a gift and a place to serve in the kingdom of God.

“Our ordinary service and reasonable service to God may actually compete against our total surrender to Him.  Our reasonable work is based on the following argument which we say to ourselves, “Remember how useful you are here, and think how much value you would be in that particular type of work.”  That attitude chooses our own judgment, instead of Jesus Christ, to be our guide as to where we should go and where we could be used the most.”
~ Oswald Chambers

  • Let’s be women who deliberate before we decide to accept an area of service.
  • If we don’t accept reasonable service, we will become resentful to all service.
  • This will help us avoid being caught in the captivity of activity.

  1. My Take Aways: The importance of organization

    Something Old: 1Chronicles 23:14
“As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were included with the tribe of Levi.” I love this. How beautiful. We all know Moses, after all these years look at how he is remebered. “the man of God.” Wow! If I could only be remembered in a way like that. How wonderful it would be to be known as someone who reflected God. I love this small but powerful statement about Moses.

Something New: David is amazing! He may not have built the temple, but it was his Temple. He gathered materials, made all the blueprints, and organized every detail. I just can’t comprehend all the work and thought that went into all these plans. How this must have brought great glory to God, to see David take his time to make sure there was order and structure in all areas of worship and care of the temple. Both Priests and Levites where needed for the smooth operation of the Temple. Their responsibilities were different, but they were equally important. This just goes to show how much David was a man after God’s Own Heart, he took his job seriously. I didn’t realize until today, that this system that David organized was still in place in Jesus’s day Luke 1:5-9. “So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord . . . then an angel of the Lord appeared to him.” The rest is history. What I do or don’t do today matters tomorrow!

    Something To Do: Get organized.
God uses organization. Things simply work better when they have order. Order works! Order helps me to be better prepared to receive the blessing of God.
