The Lord Loves

There are six things the LORD hates – no, seven things He detests.
Proverbs 6:16

My Takeaways

Something Old

Investigating the seven things:

  1. Haughty eyes ~ Eyes that are snobbish, prideful or scornfully arrogant.
  2. Lying Tongue ~ A mouth that contains untruthfulness and is deceptive.
  3. Hands that kill the innocent ~ Hands that steal life.
  4. Feet that race to do wrong ~ One who seeks to do wrong before right.
  5. A heart that plots evil ~ A heart that plans and schemes with intent to harm.
  6. A false witness ~ One who lies about another.
  7. A person who sows family discord ~ One who purposefully “stirs the pot”, so harmony cannot be enjoyed.

Help me Lord, to love the things that the You love.

  1. Eyes, humble and meek, eyes full of compassion
  2. A truthful tongue with words to encourage
  3. Hands that love and nurture life
  4. Feet that race to do good
  5. A heart that longs to practice kindness
  6. A mouth that would not bear false witness
  7. A person who sows harmony in my family instead of discord

  1. My Takeaways: Beware

Something Old: The main topic today: The immoral woman, which is equal to the growing issue of pornography in today’s world that targets men, woman and even children. Solomon offered some suggestions to avoid the immoral woman in his day; it is good advice to apply to pornography. Avoid it. Protect your eyes and protect your mind. But how do you do that? (James 4:7,8) “Resist the Devil and he will flee from you; draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Our men are dying, our women are suffering, and our children are climbing on board. I can’t just sit back and close my eyes to what is taking place all around me. I can apply the same principles about the immoral woman to the problem with pornography. It’s dangerous because it destroys family life, corrupts a person’s ability to love, degrades human beings and turns them into objects, but most importantly it’s against God’s law. I can’t wait for this temptation to come and destroy my family. I must decide now how I will act when faced with this temptation, by taking a close look at what my family and friends are watching on TV, in movies, on their phones and devices, magazines, etc. Control the things which are in my control. Don’t believe the lies that pornography is harmless, natural, no one is watching, it’s not hurting anyone, everyone is curious. Remember Satan always promises one thing but delivers another. With God’s help, and my awareness I can stop the problem of pornography before it destroys my family and society. Take the advise of Solomon, gain wisdom by making sure my life is full of God’s words then I can recognize the strategies of temptation, and run away from it fast.

Something New: “For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.” (Prov. 5:21).
God brings peace to every situation and every relationship. God differentiates those who walk uprightly from those who walk in unrighteousness. God allows me to live out the initial truth that introduces the book of Proverbs, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge” (1:7). God discerns the deception behind the enticements that pornography offers. God allows me to overcome the short-term temptation that always ends in destruction. God helps the wise man to discipline himself. God encourages me to live in the Word, because only the Word reveals God’s truth and guidance for life. God protects me from the temptations of this life, reminding me to evaluate every encounter in the light of eternity. “Living in the light of God’s presence brings every attitude or action into account. No passing pleasure is worth the consequence of displeasing God.”

Something To Do: Don’t read books, look at pictures, engage in fantasy’s that stimulate the wrong desires. Keep away from settings and friends that tempt me to sin. Don’t think only of the moment focus on eternity. Remember God is omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence.
