The Exchange
How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
Psalm 133:1b
My Takeaways
Something Old
Harmony is a state of oneness, the absence of diversity.
- Be Humble
Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. 1 Peter 3:8 - Love
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:12-14 - Forgive
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32 - Be Holy
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. (NIV) Hebrews 12:14-15
As the anointing oil was costly, so is harmony. We exchange the price of being right and having our way, for being set apart, holy, and blessed.
The exchange is worth the price.
Something New
The anointing oil was a sweet aroma to God. If harmony is a sweet aroma to God then disharmony must be a stinky aroma to God.
Something to Do
Just pay the price…

“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!” Psalm 133 tells us that harmony is precious and refreshing. Family harmony is important to God. I must make every effort for peace and harmony from where I stand, even though I cannot control others’ behavior.
I also love Psalm 139 in today’s reading, “Oh Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me…
…You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!…
Search me, Oh God, and know my heart…”
There is something very reassuring about God knowing us so intimately. God is consistently with us. We can rest in this thought. I am so grateful.
My Takeaway: Psalms about trust, relationships, thanksgiving, knowing God, and prayers to God
Something Old: Psalm 131- short but mighty. (V.1-2) Pride one of the deadly sins and something I am constantly battling. Humility, oh how I wish I had more of it. I just need to be content with God leading my life.
Something New: Psalm 133 another short but mighty Psalm. There is nothing that makes me more happy then seeing harmonious relationships. Living in harmony what could be better? To live in harmony doesn’t mean I have to agree with every single person. But what it does mean is that I work purposely in life with others to serve God wholeheartedly. What better joy is there than that?
Something To Do: Come to a living relationship with Jesus!
