Anyone?
Does anyone want to live a life long and prosperous?
Psalm 34:12
My Takeaways
Something Old
But those who trust in the LORD lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:10b
I like good things, don’t you?
Something New
Who is the man (mankind) who delights in life, loving a long life to enjoy what is good? (HCSB)
Anyone? Are you an anyone?
Anyone is any person at all
- Keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies (v13)
- Turn away from evil and do good (V14)
- Search for peace, and work to maintain it. (V14)
Something to Do
Be an anyone
As I studied Psalm 34 On Biblestudytools.com, it was noted that in verse 11 David says, “Come, my children, and listen to me and I will teach you to fear the Lord.” It was pointed out that David was a musician, a statesman, and a soldier. However he did not say I will teach you to play the lyre or how to use a sword, etc. He said, I will teach you to fear the Lord.” This is of utmost importance.
Perhaps this spoke to me as a parent, or as a preschool director, or as a grandparent. In all of these roles I have the opportunity to teach children to love and respect the Lord. What a gift and what an awesome responsibility! “Come my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord.”
My Takeaways: David did wrong in God’s Eyes
Something Old:1 Samuel 21:10 David lied to protect himself from Saul. Oops, not good. God never condones sin. Lying is a sin regardless of the reason behind it. If David had not lied God would have still protected him.
Something New: David’s sin had its consequences. (I have the advantage of reading ahead, since I fell behind, so now I’m going back to makeup this lesson). In 1 Samuel 22: 9-19 eighty-five priests die. As innocent and small as David’s lie appeared to be, the results were devasting.
Something To Do: Remember to stay away from my sinful desires at all cost. There are always consequences when I disobey God. Maybe not right this second, but in the future to come.
