“How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the LORD, the God of ancestors, has given to you?”
Joshua 18:3
My Takeaways
Something Old
How long am I going to wait to live in the freedom God has given me?
John 8:32
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
2 Corinthians 3:17
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Why are we waiting to walk in our freedom?
- Comfort cuts off our incentive.
- Fear frightens our motivation.
- Weariness weakens our resolve
When we delay walking in our freedom we:
- Settle for less, than taking God’s best
- Circumvent the thrill of God’s power at work
- Miss out on the delight of His Presence
Something New
When I delay in taking action toward my freedom, I’m the one who loses.
Something to Do
Don’t delay! Walk in freedom Christ gave me!
My Takeaways: Dividing the land to the remaining tribes
Something Old: Joshua 18:1 “Now that the land was under Israelite control, the entire community of Israel gathered at Shiloh and set up the Tabernacle.” I think it’s wonderful that the whole community gathered together again. Moving the tabernacle from Gilgal to Shiloh was important in order to encourage the spiritual life of the people. They needed to focus their attention on the Lord again.
Something New: Joshua 19:47 “But the tribe of Dan had trouble taking possession of their land, so they attacked the town of Laish. They captured it, slaughtered its people, and settled there…” Dan’s tribe chose to migrate to Laish where they knew victory would be easier. Anyone can trust God when the going is easy.
Something To Do: Have faith when the going gets tough. Trust, know and believe that God is good all the time and he alone can tackle my most difficult times in any situation.
