The Lavish Love of God

But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.
Exodus 20:6

My Takeaways

Something Old

Do I give me affection to another god?

Something New

Lavish: To expend or give in great amounts or without limit

Unfailing: Inexhaustible; endless

If the result of my obedience is endless love and mercy, why wouldn’t I obey?

Something to Do

Obey for the sake of the generations to come.

  1. My Takeaways:
The people of Israel were now able to see the true nature of God and what his desire was for how they should live.

    Something Old:
The ten commandments: general laws giving instructions on how to live. Jesus came to fulfill the law. The law allows me to see how there is no way that I can keep them. I am a sinner in need of a Savior.

    Something New:
Exodus 21- Laws presented with punishment. God’s response to a certain action. Reminds me of a scientific hypothesis. If you do this, then this is what will happen. Up until this point I’ve never really paid much attention to any of the laws except the 10 commandments.

    Something To Do:
Do I ever stop to think that everything has consequences. I need to think before acting. I need to consider the effects of my choices. I need to act responsibly and justly with all people-friends and enemies alike.

  2. What a powerful message today and reminder to me that my obedience to God and to love God matters not only for my life but the life of future generations. WOW ! You are right Wendy, why wouldn’t we ? Can I get an Amen !

  3. This teaching like the last three teachings is the reason that I have once again started back with RTW with Wendy. I started back in 2010 with the first time of completing RTW and continued the plan until 2016. In 2016, I chose to do something else… instead of reading, I did certain Bible studies. Then, last year I started with First 5, so that was my reading, but I did start out “planning” to do RTW. However, I wasn’t obedient to the Lord; thus, He made me miss this special time of reading daily in His Word as well as doing First 5 and other studies. I can do these things as I am a retired school teacher to whom God has given a longing and a passion for His word. One of my brothers has told me that I am just getting ready for Heaven. Isn’t that what we are suppose to do—whether we are soon to be 68 or 48????
The verse for today and Wendy’s teaching brought tears as I thought of how much I want to leave examples of God’s grace, mercy, faithfulness, etc, to my grandchildren.
Thank you, Lord God, for Wendy and for bringing me back to where my foundation began with knowing You!!! Thank You, God, for Your lavish unfailing love to my obedience to You.
