RTW February 4

The Reservation

On this night, the LORD kept His promise to bring His people out of the Land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:42a

My Takeaways

Something Old

The LORD’s plan

  • Is already planned. (Exodus 1)
  • Will be a display of His power, will be for His glory, and for our good.
  • Will subdue our oppressor. (Exodus 12:29)
  • Will make sure we leave richer (not necessarily monetarily) and stronger than before. (Exodus 12:36)
  • Is perfect and will be perfectly carried out. (Exodus 12:42)
  • Is orderly and will not cause confusion. (Exodus 12:51)

Something New

Reserved as: to be kept or set apart for some particular use or purpose

430 years in Egypt (400 in slavery. 30 during the time of Joseph)

400 years is 146,000 days

God reserved this day for their rescue. He has reserved a day for your rescue. He has a reserved day for our rescue.

Something to Do

Praise God He has a day reserved for my rescue.

  1. Wendy’s message was such an encouragement to my spirit today. (I know it was recorded a year ago….I did not listen to it then….I sorely needed it TODAY). So grateful, even in this, for God’s timing.

    Something Old
Exodus 12:11…. “Wear your traveling clothes…..as though preparing for a long journey….”. I’ve always loved this little bit of scripture. I know we are not to take verses out of context, but for me this is a confirmation of the admonition to be ready and always be watching. I want to wear my traveling clothes as I journey through this land! I want to be ready to go…..whenever He calls or Returns. (Looking to cash in that Reservation)

    Something New
Exodus 11:2-3, “Now the Lord had caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the people of Israel and Moses was considered a very great man in the land of Egypt. He was respected by pharaoh’s officials and the Egyptian people alike.” While I recall the fact that the Egyptians loaded the Israelites down with plenty of goods and monetary recompense, I don’t remember noting that the people of the country actually recognized Moses’ position and the God He followed. His light was shining and illuminating those who watched….except for Pharaoh, whose heart was hard.

    Something To Do
Exodus 10:1, “….so I can continue to display my power…..” When we ask “why is this going on for so long?” I think about this verse. I realize that we may not always “see” the miracles that are taking place or understand what we think of as a delay, but we must trust that God is always at work…..bringing the good out of our suffering.

  2. I finished the reading for the day and I watched Wendy’s video teaching. Was anyone able to find which translation of the Bible (I assume that she was referring to a Bible translation) that Wendy mentioned that stated that God had reserved the day? I am unable find it in any major translation.

    1. Victoria,
I can not find the word REserved, but I did find the word, OBserved, used numerous times in various translations. Perhaps reserved was used in a commentary, but I do not see it in this verse in scripture. I went back and listened to Wendy’s video thinking that my northern ears misheard her southern-speak. However, I do believe He has a day planned, set apart, (reserved)…..and am praising Him for it.

  3. Not sure where reserved came from. My NKJV says ” It is a night of solemn observance to the Lord for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of the Lord a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.” Which explains why Jews observe the Passover –God’s saving acts for the Israelites and Christians observe the Lord’s supper-Jesus saving acts for us still remember and are thankful for what God did for the Israelites.

    My Takeaways:
God kept his promises. He did everything just as he said he would. Exodus 4:22-23 “Then you shall say to Pharoah, thus says the Lord, ‘Israel is my son, my first born so I say to you let my son go that he may serve me but if you refuse to let him go indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.'”

Something Old: Always makes me smile to know that the Egyptians freely handed over their wealth. The slaves were now being paid for all those years they were held captive. God’s plan from the beginning- Exodus 3:21-22

    Something New:
Pharaoh ask Moses and Aaron to pray for him. He never thought to pray for himself. This so clearly speaks of who he is. He doesnt love God nor does he want a relationship with Him. Pharaoh desires only that the plagues be taken away, not his sin – not the plague of a hard heart, which was so much more dangerous.
    Something To Do:
When I sin – recognize my sin – and cry out to God.
