A Long Pause

A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt …
Numbers 1:1a

My Takeaways

Something Old

Temporary pauses are more palatable that extended stays. The pause is meant to strengthen our resolve, not weaken our faith.

Something New

A certainty can happen in the wilderness:

  • See His miracles more clearly
  • Feel His presence more intensely
  • Worship Him more authentically
  • Obey Him more sincerely

A crisis can arise in the wilderness:

  • Manipulate God’s plan
  • Make an idol of what we are waiting on
  • Move on without God

Something to Do

Relax in my pause: see, feel, worship, and obey; and watch what happens.

  1. Trying to relax in my pause, but easier said than done. My pause is going on 3 years. I won’t move on without God. I do feel His presence and I’m becoming a better listener. Please pray with me that I can be patient and worship and obey in the wilderness. Thanks to all of you who share your thoughts and insights frequently. I love to read God’s Word, hear Wendy’s lesson, and then read your comments.

  2. My Takeaways: Well girls we made it through another book. I am learning so much. The Book of Leviticus turned out to be fun. Couldn’t you see Jesus Christ written all over the pages? Well now we’re ready to journey through Numbers. I’m excited to see what treasures are buried there.

Something Old: I’m always so surprised when I think of the enormous amount of Israelites that were traveling. 603,550. Wow, that is a lot of people! Just to think that didn’t count the children, the women, the men that couldn’t fight in the war, and the Levites. There had to be well over a million people traveling through the wilderness. They must have been spread out for miles. Does this bring you back to Noah and the Ark? When you think about all the animals fitting into the Ark, don’t you ever wonder how? Well the good thing about all this-I don’t have to wrap my head around it and understand it. I know it’s true, because it’s in God’s word. I only need to trust and believe in everything he says. He always takes care of the details. He makes the impossible, possible.

Something New: A whole year of freedom from Slavery in Egypt. How happy the Israelites must have been. They received specific directions for their lifestyle in the new land. Now the census has been taken and the second Passover was celebrated. The Israelites were ready to continue their journey to the Promised Land. God took the time to prepare them for war and the other hardships that they would encounter along the way. Just like Jesus Christ has prepared our way. He has given us all the necessary tools to take us through our journey through life. Notice how we continue to read “so the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.” Can we do the same, as we journey through life? Will we do everything just as Jesus has commanded us?

Something To Do: Am I trusting God’s word as I travel along in my life’s journey? Do I go to him when troubles and hardships come my way? Do I listen and do what he says? Just as God lead and prepared the Israelites in their journey to the “promised land,” Jesus is preparing me to my “promised land.” Am I ready to listen and obey, so I too can have His promise of ever lasting life?
