From This Darkness…
From this darkness You will lead us, we sang as we worshiped together Sunday. The song continued:
And forever we will say
You’re the Lord our God
In the silence, in the waiting
Still we can know You are good
All Your plans are for Your glory
Yes, we can know You are good
Yes, we can know You are good
Even though worship continued, from this darkness You will lead us stayed with me. All day long the seven words raced through my mind. Around and around. Has this ever happened to you? Why? Why was I wrestling with these words?
The Spirit drew a straight line from the words to Orlando, FL.
I’ve remained silent about the Orlando tragedies. In my heart, mind, and soul I’ve wrestled with my response and thoughts regarding what happened to this city. A young Christian woman, a role model to my daughter senselessly gunned down. Fifty people gathered together recklessly slaughtered by hate. A baby, playing, unknowingly snatched away from his father and mother.
From this darkness You will lead us.
These words have become my prayer, my claim to victory over the thoughts that have consumed me over the past weeks.
Lead us Lord, from this darkness. And forever we will say, You’re the Lord our God.
- You’re the Lord our God over the senseless.
- You’re the Lord our God over the reckless.
- You’re the Lord our God over the unknown.
Still we can know You are good.
Are you in a dark place today? Maybe you are struggling with the “right” response to what happened in Orlando. Perhaps you are struggling with your own senseless, reckless, and unknown circumstances. Be encouraged… From this darkness He will lead you.

This post landed right on my heart! Thank you Wendy for putting words to how I feel! Love you!
Thank you so much for this post. My heart has been hurting for everyone in Orlando. This so resonated with me because of Orlando but more importantly what is happening in my own life. I love your heart. I so want to be more like Jesus, to love even when its hard.
Thank you for your words.
