TGFABT – Psalm 79

Gratefully Responding to Graceful Warnings

“…may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.”
Psalm 79:8

Through His grace He warns us:

  • Scripture we read.
  • People we talk to.
  • Messages we hear.
  • Nudges from the Holy Spirit.
  • Music we worship to.

When the Spirit is graceful enough to give warnings, let’s gratefully respond.

Truth Tuesday

Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 79?

His Word is good for more than making me feel good.

Word Study Wednesday

“Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of Your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name’s sake.”
Psalm 79:9

I love this verse! A prayer for forgiveness. We can borrow this you know. By inserting personal pronouns, we can pray this prayer, if we sin that is. [Insert giggle here]

Here is the breakdown with Hebrew transliterations of some of the words:

Help us (me) [Elohim] for the glory [honor and splendor] of Your name. Deliver [snatch away] (me) and forgive [purge, pardon, cleanse] our (me) sins for Your name’s sake.

Notice girls, the help, deliverance, and forgiveness of our sins is not for our sake but His. It is all about God. Everything.

Wow. This is good stuff.
