TGFABT – Psalm 69

Up to My Neck

“May those who put their hope in You.”
Psalm 69:6

When we are up to our neck and worn out with eyes that fail to see God, may we put our hope in Him even though we can see Him.

May (World Dictionary)

to indicate possibility

It indicates possibility not probability. God is our hope. The possibility of “may” is up to us. It is our choice.  And it is a choice.

My hope must be in Him, not:

  • A new job
  • A better marriage
  • A change
  • A nicer home
  • A happier child
  • A prodigal returned
  • A healthy diagnosis

Pray (V13)

Praise (V30-31)

Praise is better than sacrifice. Let’s face it…praise is sacrifice when you are up to your neck, worn out, and cant’ see God.

Truth Tuesday

Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 69?

I love the truth, praise is better than sacrifice. Praise is a sacrifice when we are up to our neck, worn out with eyes that can’t see God. When I praise God, I will see God.

Word Study Wednesday

“May those who hope in You…”  Psalm 69:6

I love the word hope! Most individuals do. The word is refreshing and positive. It almost has vision, don’t you think? Everyone wants hope, especially when they are up to their neck in it, worn out, and have eyes that fail to see God. David needed hope. I need hope and perhaps you need hope.

I found the transliteration of the word hope to be very interesting. It is the word qavah (kaw-vaw’) and its short definition is wait. In my mind wait is much different than hope. Wait conjures up images of being  tired, slouched over, and frankly, worn out. The image is far from the refreshingly positive picture I see when I think of the word hope.

But to God waiting is hope, when we wait with Him that is. As we wait or tarry with Him, He gives answers to our questions, peace to our insecurity, and calm to our anxious heart.

We just have to be willing to sit and savor our waiting moments with the one who has all the answers. Is it easy? From my experience, it is not. Is it worth it? From my experience, yes.
