The Ministry of Remembering

My I encourage you to read Psalm 42.

The psalmist is in the midst of some personal difficulties. We don’t know the nature of his hardships but we I have a sneaky feeling that we can all identify with his laments.

He is being mocked. “Where is this God of yours?” people ask. Though his heart longs for God he is  unable to worship Him. Yet while his heart is breaking others are worshiping .  He is discouraged and is trying to talk himself off the ledge of despair.

His tone turns when he  remembers God and God’s love. His situation did not change just because he remembered. However, remembering changed the direction of his thoughts which led to the renewing of  his spirit.

But I remember you… (V5b)

But each day the LORD pours His unfailing love upon me…(V8a)

I want learn from the psalmist. He spoke freely to the Lord about his feelings of abandonment, discouragement, and loneliness. He did not try to hide them or “put on a happy face.” This honesty and transparency made room for the ministry of remembering to renew his heart. As he poured out his feelings, his remembering poured in God’s love and goodness.

What a great lesson to tuck away in our heart: A shift in my thinking may not change my situation but it will change my spirit.

Thank you Lord for the ministry of remembering you and your love great love. Help me to never forget that each day, the good days, the bad days, the challenging day, the empty days, the full days, you pour your unfailing love upon me.

  1. Needed to do this over the last few days… And remembering really does renew your heart… Oh the truth in God’s Word for us today!

  2. Thank You for your site, it is awesome. I have some demonic oppression happening to me since Jan. and I know that Jesus is always with me, holding my hand and He is also in me. I am just confused as to how demons can literally touch me when Jesus is IN me and Holding my hand. (I take this to God in prayer, daily) still praying about it.
any advice you can offer will be appreciated.
    Thank You
    Kim
