Open My Eyes
Sometimes I read scripture and I think, “Wow!” Sometimes I read scripture and think, “Ouch.”
Today was an ouch day.
So I was minding my own business sitting in Sunday School when our teacher directed us to an often overlooked story found in Luke 24:13-35. Let me set the scene.
Jesus has been crucified and placed in the tomb. The tomb is now empty and Jesus is nowhere to be found. Two men are walking down the road, away from Jerusalem, when they are joined by another man, an unknown man.
The two men tell the unknown man about Jesus. “We had hoped He was our Redeemer.” They continue their journey then stop for a bite to eat. The unknown man broke the bread and gave it to them. “Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’”
How many times have I missed Him? Was my heart not burning within?
Lord, I am sorry that I have missed you. Let me see you, everywhere. Let me see you.
