Breaking the Sin Cycle
“Again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight.”
Judges 10:6
The first time was exciting and harmless. Since no one got hurt, or even noticed I sinned again. And again. Then I realized sin lied.
Sin is not harmless. People do get it hurt when we sin. We get hurt when we sin. It will take us farther than we ever intend to go and cause us do more than we ever intend to do. Sin is seductive and holds us hostage in powerful cycle.
God’s grace is greater than the power of our sin cycle. Through the power of His Spirit He will redirect our thinking about our sin. This will cause a change of heart and a change of mind which will lead to a change of action.
Take heart my friend!! Just as God heard the cry of repentance from the Israelites, He hears your cry. They cried out to God and you can too. When we repent, He forgives.
Different starts when we break the sin cycle by confessing our sin and accepting God’s grace.
Lord, I confess my sin of [fill in the blank]. Forgive me. Change my heart and my mind about my sin others can see a difference in me.
I needed to read this today. I spent all day yesterday thinking about a situation in my life where I am not being honest. That’s sin. I woke up today feeling as though yesterday was time well spent, and that I need to continue to consider this situation as nothing better than what it is. A lie. Reading your post helps. There should be no glossy finish put on sin to make it look all right. It happens, but it shouldn’t. I need to keep working in my mind and heart today to recognize sin for what it is. Lies. And to stop participating. Thank you Wendy.
