Add Power to Your Prayer

Prayer becomes powerful when we:
- Don’t have details. (Romans 8:26-27)
- Offer praise. (Hebrews 13:15)
- Pray positive. (Romans 8:28) (Psalm 139:5)
- Pray. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Thanks so much for sharing your idea on praying without ceasing… Pray prompters..I just love it and plan on sharing the idea with my friends. Blessings
thanks for stopping by winell. blessings!
I also would like to thank you, Wendy, for sharing on praying. Have a blessed day! 🙂
you too latosha. thanks for stopping by.
Thank You so much for this blog Wendy. Praying without ceasing is so important and right now we are praying for one of our friends that is going through chemo because of breast cancer. I know that God is working and that so many things that are happening with her are His mighty hand guiding us and her. He is amazing. Hope you have a blessed day!
Thank You Thank You Thank You! I felt so guilty when I tried to start a prayer journal and then could not think of how to pray for everyone I put in it. Now I know what to do. The spiral is a fantastic idea! The weather is bad where I am but I am going to get that spiral TODAY and get crackin. Bless you for being the conduit for a problem solved.
Thank you so much for this, Wendy! I’ve been in a strange spot lately with prayer. It’s been a little difficult for me to pray–I don’t know what to pray or how to pray, and therefore don’t even always desire to pray–all because I’ve been struggling to believe that there is even power in prayer. If God is all-knowing and sovereign, why do we need to pray? Does He really change His mind or the course of events on something just because we ask Him to? Doesn’t He do what is best, regardless of what we think? So what is prayer and why is it good and how does it work and how is it powerful? I’ve asked God these questions many times, and He began to show me that prayer is more to change us than it is to change Him. We can pray over a situation, for circumstances to be changed, but often what needs changing is our hearts. If we honestly praying about a situation, giving it into His hands, through prayer He begins to sow trust in our hearts…if we believe His character–that He is good, no matter what–then we can honestly pray for His will to be done, and we can honestly trust Him and desire His will above anything else in that situation. I’ve been asking Him to give me more understanding of prayer and to show me the power in it…I know He is faithful to reveal Himself and His truth when we earnestly seek Him, and I see Him doing that in this particular area of my life. I absolutely love your ideas that you have shared here–especially the thought that prayer becomes powerful when we simply begin to pray. He spoke to me in that one! Thank you for being a blessing and a beautiful example of a godly woman!
Wendy, What a timely message. I received a phone call right in the middle of this video. It involved me changing my plans and stopping to immediately pray for this person. I love the verses you shared.
BTWY, you may not think you are creative, but I thought your prayer book was a wonderfully creative idea<3
I really needed this today! God has been speaking to me this week about my prayer life. Our notes from a Bible study I’m involved in spoke heavily on prayer; specifically on Jesus’ prayer life during his earthly ministry and how important it was for him to be in direct conversation with his Father in heaven. If it was that important to Him, how much more important it should be for us! Another study I’m doing is teaching on our responsibilities as wives, mothers, and mentors to younger women to lift those we love up to God in prayer. Thanks for the ideas and verses you shared in this blog. I’m excited to start a prayer book and see God at work through my prayers and keep a record of what He is teaching me.
I also have an interesting prayer prompt God has given me. I have a newlywed nephew who recently to a job on a train and a year ago we moved to a little town with a busy train track. God has prompted me to pray for that nephew and his new wife each time I hear a train whistle blow.
Dear Wendy,
Your devotional running today on Prov. 31 and your blog about prayer are an answer to prayer for me.
Have a blessed day!
Grace
I really enjoyed the Devotion as well as the Video. I just wanted to share one prayer reminder that I have used for years. Every time I look at the clock, if the time is 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, 5:55, 10:10, 11:11, or 12:12, I stop and pray for the salvation of my children, my children’s spouses, and my grandchildren. You would be surprised how many times the Lord brings this to my attention during the day. This is my most fervent prayer of all for each of them to be saved. I pray that the Lord would put someone in their lives to witness to them, to give them the knowledge and understanding of how to be saved, and the desire to know HIM as their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One day while I was praying, I realized that HE wanted me to be the one to witness to them. I try not to sound “preachy” to them and turn them off completely, but I do take every opportunity the Lord gives me to tell them about HIM. I would ask you also to please say a prayer for them. As you demonstrated in the video, it is so important for us to pray for each other. Thank You!
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on prayer. I am a deacon at my church and have responsibility for encouraging discipleship within our fellowship. Recently I felt that god was laying on my heart the idea of encouraging people to use prayer journals and I am waiting on God to know if this was him prompting me. Your video really spoke to me and seems to be confirming that this idea has indeed come from God. Bless you for sharing and for being such an inspirational prayer warrior. Many blessings, Lesley
Thank you for this reminder about the power of prayer. This was meant for me today. God always works together for good to them that love Him.
Thank you for the reminder of how important prayer is! I have a journal where write down my prayers but I need to organize a little better and make it fancier like yours! 😉 At the back of my prayer journal is prayers for the future, like praying for my son’s future and his future wife. I also pray for our sponsor child and her future. And I thank God for how he is going to bless them. You’re right about how important prayer is, and without the “amen”!
You bless me beyond measure!
Thank you Wendy for sharing your prayer journal! What a great idea to help with prayer.I was asking the Lord about my prayer life this week.I’m praying to be more organized.
Like the prayer journal..have used one in past…starting a new one tonight.
Wendy,
As I read your blog message today, I felt certain that it was a direct message from God me. I have long struggle with the intention to pray for others and have failed more often than not (to do so in a timely fashion). However today, I realized that I have not been using my God given gifts to work for others! Thanks to you, one more “blind” spot has been revealed (and hopefully) I will now get about “seeing” through on my promises of prayer for others.
Thank you Wendy for your wisdom re: praying. I love your 4 points! We recently finished a series on praying at our church and Mark Batterson, author of, – “The Circle Maker” gave our Sunday sermon. I will share some of his points as we all learn from mighty prayer warriors!
• When you pray to God regularly, irregular things happen on the regular basis.
• We want God to reveal the second step before we take the first step, but sometimes faith is taking the first step before you know what the second step is.
• Don’t seek opportunity. Seek God. And opportunity will seek you.
• Prayer is our most lasting legacy—there is no expiration date on our prayers. God continues to answer them long after we are long gone.
• If you don’t build a prayer habit, you’ll never break the sin habit.
• I used to pray ASAP prayers—I wanted God to answer every prayer as soon as possible. I’m now praying ALAT prayers, as long as it takes.
• I’m always careful to point out that every prayer has to meet the two-fold litmus test: it has to be in the will of God and for the glory of God.
Lori, I just made a copy of the words you shared…thanks so much, this will be in my Prayer Journal that I plan to start today. Marjorie
It is a joy and blessing to meet you online. LOVED your prayer article and video! I praise the Lord that you faithfully followed Him, and that you are being used to help women. I am a busy person, with work and ministry, and one powerful tip on prayer is praying each day when driving and in the shower. Multi-task praying. Praying in the grocery store. If someone cuts in front of me in line, or cuts me off while driving, PRAISE God! What if they are unsaved? I may be a vessel to pray for their salvation. So turn little “annoyances” into prayers for the people and thank God that someone is praying for them. Wendy, I would be so honored and grateful if you will pray for my husband and I and for all of God’s plans for us for ministry. May we be obedient in the small and big things. Thank you and God’s richest blessings to you!
I like to start my prayer time with my prayer/praise journal. I write down the requests and put a little hand next to these to remember to pray. And when answers come I record the praises with an exclamation point next to them. It helps to see the visuals of all that God is doing through prayers.
Hope that inspires you, too!
I also started praying first then doing my Bible reading second. That way I get into the Spirit of the Lord prior to reading and as I read I add to the Journal as the Holy Spirit leads me to prayer.
I have to tell you…you have been on my mind lately. I used to follow you when you did the chronological bible teachings. I kept meaning to look up your blog again. I am so glad to have run across it on Facebook. This was a great idea and I hope I can do it too, thanks!!
Wendy, thank you for your teaching about prayer. I tweaked the first bullet in my journal to read: When I don’t have the words.
You also caught my attention in your vlog when you said that I don’t need to ask God to “watch over” someone because He already does that. I will thank Him for watching over the person and ask Him to open their heart to His guidance.
Blessings!
Hello Wendy,
Your message served as a great reassurance for me from the Lord. I have been thinking about ding the same thing you are doing with the notebook. Printing scriptures, images, songs…anything that captures my heart and prompts me to pray in a specific way. I had been struggling, wondering if just not knowing what to pray for someone and just mentioning their names to God would be an ‘effective’ prayer. Thank you for reminding me of Romans 8:26-27!
Just wanted to say thank you, I enjoyed listening to you and found reassurance and motivation to keep praying, even if it doesn’t seem ‘perfect’!
Thank you so much for this! I have found I am not good at journaling–I’ve tried the book idea and I don’t stick with it. What works for me is having an index card holder and I write a persons name on the card, a general idea of their prayer need and then each morning I read the names on each card. I appreciate your saying that you prefer not knowing the exact need because when I pray over my prayer cards I simply say “You know the needs both spoken and unspoken” and leave the details to God. I love having the index card holder because I can slip it into my purse and take it with me. When I have wait times during the day I can take out my cards and read through them. It’s been a real blessing 🙂
Wendy, thanks for sharing about how to pray. Keeping verses associated with the prayer requests, is a great idea. I do keep an notebook, I will try to perfect it more with your tips. Thanks a lot.
WONDERFUL ENCOURAGEMENT TODAY!!!! I think prayer is hard. I often find myself much more willing to do a Bible study extra thoroughly and run out of time to pray because time to do the other things in life is calling. I love this tool idea. I am going to try it.
Dear Wendy & Sisters:
God bless you all!!
My model of prayer is : A.C.T.S = Adoration, Confession, Thanks, Suplication. This is just a guideline for me because my mind wonders and I need it to apply some discipline in this area.
Also, I get up very early in the morning to pray to avoid distractions too. Distractions and interruptions were other problems I have to overcome.
However your prayer journal is a fantastic idea. It can be used for witnessing as well as praising God.
Thank you so much for your support.
God is good to us all!!
I have noticed since I started my prayer journal on this week the enjoyment I am having with prayer. I enjoy reflecting on the previous day prayers and writing down the answer to some of those prayers. it’s a source of life:)
