The Power of Assumptions

Assumption: the power of supposing; to believe or assume something is true

This definition is according to dictionary.com. The power of supposing can overpower us. Supposing can consume our responses, attitudes, and thoughts. For much of life I wasted time supposing.

A few years ago I received some incredibly wise words concerning assumptions. Over time, these wise words have radically transformed me. Applying them equipped me to respond positively to possible negativity. They reshaped my attitude, helping me to see another’s point of view and enabled me to redirect my thoughts from “this is against me to how can this be for me.”

Write these seven words down. Commit them to memory. Put them into practice. In doing so, supposing will no longer overpower you. I am living proof!

Believe the best before assuming the worst.

I will confess, saying them is easier than submitting to them. In the throws of thunderous emotions and doubt, it is so much easier to assume the worse than to believe the best. But you have power! Paul said so, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Girls, God gave us what we need to overpower that which has overpowered us. Let’s believe God and believe the best.

The New Year is just a few weeks away. Turn the page of your calendar and set the course of 2014 with these powerful 7 words!!!

Thank you Lysa T. for sharing your wisdom with me. It changed my life. I pray now, it will do the same for others.

  1. Thank you Wendy for sharing your wisdom and struggle with supposing, I too have always struggled with this and it has cost me many relationships and left me with the fear to truly trust people. I love those 7 words and thank you for reminding me today that God has not given us a spirit of fear!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this. I thought I was the only one who struggled with this. It really helped me to read this. I have been struggling with this issue so much lately with a very important relationship and have been praying through it, but this shed so much light on it for me. It was an a-ha moment. God is so good to always meet me where I am at. I needed this today. It is such a God thing! I have been looking for this verse for the last week in my bible, but could not find it. Thank you so much! God has used you in a very meaningful and needed way in my life today!

  3. thanks so much for your insight and encouraging words! Sadly, some assumptions over the years came true when others broke off relationships due to our children no longer being close friends (their decision, not mine). Just last year, I dealt with a relationship in which a former friend did a similar thing but ending up hurting me with mind games and harsh words and attitudes. This has made me put up a protective wall with others because I have been hurt so many times. I have an outgoing personality but past hurts and seeing women that have been within my social circle talk harshly about others has made me wary of trusting others. I have prayed for Godly friends and it seems others are often too busy to find time to spend together. I will hold those seven important words close to my heart.

  4. Excellent challenge for the New Year! Thank you Wendy for being real, and opening yourself up to all us gals out here. Have a Blessed Christmas!

  5. Amen! If God is for us, exactly who can be against us. I needed no one but me to beat me up. Thank you, Jesus, for pursuing me in your Great Love!
