Prayer Prompters

I am aware of so many prayer needs. People I know. People I don’t know. I am the first to admit how difficult it is to remember everyone. Typically when I hear of a need I press pause and pray right at the moment I hear of the request. Very often the Lord burdens my heart to fervently pray for certain individuals. In fact, prayer is what drew my heart to my husband.

I can remember every word to my favorite 80’s rock but I can’t seem to remember to pray for those I committed to pray for. Can you relate?

God gave me a prayer remembering method. For some reason I can remember the kind of car people drive. When I see  the make of car my friend or loved one drives I pause and pray for them. If I continue to see the make of car, I continue to pray, and typically text the person. (Not while driving of course. Unless my kids are in the car. They are my D.T.’s :Designated Texters.) If the car sighting remains intense I call the person.

Over the years God has helped me remember people with other prompters. Here are some examples:

  • Red Honda mini van, Renee Swope and family (She drove one for years.)
  • Ringing in my ear, Lysa TerKeurst (She has a constant ringing in her ear.)
  • Leopard print, Lisa Allen (She loves leopard print.)
  • Purple, especially pens, Sharon Sloan (She loves purple.)
  • Fog/low lying clouds, Kristi Butler (We call low lying clouds the Glory of the Lord.)
  • The song Wonderful, Merciful Savior, My former pastor (It is one of his favorite songs.)

No need to go on. I feel sure you get the picture. A friend from long ago used to have a prayer calender. It was simple Dollar Store calender and filled in with the names of the people she was praying for. Each day of the week she prayed for certain people. I loved that idea! Never organized enough to do it but loved it.

How do you remember to pray for others? Do you pray for others?

  1. I LOVE THIS WENDY!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing this, what an awesome way to remember to pray for people. I will start to use this method for sure!!! You are a blessing Wendy!! ♥

  2. Wendy I too pray for people when I hear the request – I have a list that I go through every day that is sorted into needs – Marriage repair – healing – protection- salvation-miscellaneous and each of my children have a list as does my husband and myself. I add to/delete – put down date prayer answered, etc. Every 4 months I update my list. I actually keep it typed in my computer because some people I continually pray for and as the need changes then I write on my list.
To be honest Wendy I never did this until I started reading the Word with you 4 years ago and something you said prompted me to do this! I love it and I love seeing prayers answered!!!

  3. I do pray for people but I, like you, tend to forget who I’m supposed to pray for. I’ll have to try this method. Thank you Wendy!
