Something New
Day 60
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:22-24
I love putting on something new, always have! I won’t lie. When thinking of new, I prefer something from a store where the only effort on my part is cutting off the tags.
The new in our key verse requires commitment, determination, and dedication. But what it does not take is perfection.
I did some digging. The Greek word for new is kainós. Properly it means new in quality (innovation), fresh in development or opportunity – because “not found exactly like this before.” See, there is nothing in this definition about flawless perfection. It is about development or opportunity. Our job is to put on an attitude of change , be open to making changes that God wants to develop and perfect in us.
We make ourselves ready for fresh and developing, for new, by committing to being different. We just need to come to the place where we want different then position ourselves to be different. The position starts with a posture of humility each morning. Meet God for 5 to 10 minutes each morning with your favorite devotion book and Bible. (Mine is My Utmost for His Highest) Ask Him for fresh, to create in you in something different that will make a difference in your life. This different will come, over time, and with commitment, determination, and dedication. I know it will!
I know it will because I have lived the story. My commitment, determination, and dedication started 14 years ago. Little by little different and fresh begin to happen. Be patient with yourself and God. Your new will be so different you will won’t recognize yourself.
