Defaults

Day 28

Yesterday we thought about our first response to unglued situations, our defaults. Predetermined value or setting.

My first response to unglued situations depends on who the unglued situation involves.  Are you that way?  Your default setting is dependent upon the person or people involved?

Maybe with your husband it is the silent treatment. Perhaps with your children your volume elevates. Work problems put in you shut-down mode. A rude grocery clerk or bank teller brings out the rude in you.

My defaults are all the above.  Not pretty but true. But God… God is faithful to forgive and and powerful enough to help me change me defaults. The same power belongs to all His children.  The Bible calls is self-control.  It is a fruit of God’s Spirit and all of God’s children can allow the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit change our default.

Through the power of the person of the Holy Spirit the silent treatment can become effective communication. Our elevating volume decreases and is softened with tempered with patience. Rude transform to grace.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Our default settings are dependent on our submission to our power, not the person or people involved in our disputes.
