TGFABT – Psalm 41

“Even my close friend,I whom I trusted, he who shared
my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.”
Psalm 41:9

Yea,  mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” (KJV)

Betrayed by a familiar friend, one who helped you in times of trouble has caused trouble for you. What do you do?

  • Pray…sincerely pray through the hurt. (Sincerely and without ceasing.  The Holy Comforter will bring comfort to your soul.)
  • Pour your hurt out at Jesus’ feet (He can take it.  Keep pouring to till the pain eases, and it will.)
  • Patiently wait it out with God and the other person. (God is working. He hears and answers to the cries of His children. There will be reconciliation if not with you and the friend, with you and your heart.)
  • Receives what He reveals. (What He reveals will heal the relationship and/or your heart.)

Believe the best before assuming the worse.

Truth

To always show regard for the weak…

Word Study

By this I know that thou favorest me because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.” Psalms 41:11

I just love the poet sound of the KJV. The word favorest makes me smile!

Pleased (NIV) Favorest (KJV) Chaphets (khaw-fates’ )

to delight in, take pleasure in, desire, be pleased with

Is God pleased with me? Does He take pleasure in and delight in me?

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful God is faithful even when I am not.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

My faith is being stretch this weekend as I lead a retreat in Sharon, MA teaching on the topic of holiness.  WOW!

  1. Great lesson about going to God and following his timing towards reconciliation with someone who has betrayed you. Took me into late 50’s to learn to do this and it isn’t always easy. My heart leaps with joy when I can forgive.

  2. As we all have, I feel I was betrayed twice by the same person. Unlike Wendy, I reacted rather than waiting, praying, forgiving and reconciling. Because of this I gave up on the relationship as well as a position I love. I am not unhappy with my decision, but I do miss both situations at times.
So lesson learned, do not react, wait, pray, wait, pray until you feel strong enough to forgive and reconcile. Quitting is not an option!
May you all have a blessed Christmas and happy new year!

  3. In the midst of difficulties, whatever they may be, God is good and faithful. Even though David is betrayed, he recognizes where his hope and security come from….verse 10 says” YOU Oh Lord have mercy on me…I know that YOU are pleased with me. In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. Praise be to the Lord!!!” So good to remember that even though people fail us and dissapoint and even betray us, we can look to God our stronghold. He sees us through His eyes.

  4. I totally agree Nancy. I am hurt right now by the friends that I have known for over 30 years that are not even reaching out to me during this tough time with John. People I have known only a short time are. Hard not to feel hurt and betrayed. God never leaves me and I can go to him always. I go by that faith that never ends to get me through these tough times along with all the prayers I know are being said for us. God never fails!

  5. I know the truth is God is at my side always when I can’t count on the support of others. God will never leave or forsake my aching heart!

  6. I love that the Lord “delights” in me verse 11… the dictionary says to give great pleasure, satisfaction, or enjoyment to; please highly. What a sweet assurance. I can feel inadequate and can get caught up in my failures but the Lord delights in me.

  7. I am thankful for what I have learned in this study. Merry Christmas and may God Bless everyone!

  8. Faith stretching. As we end this study I will pray that I will continue to work at all the things we have learned.
