TGFABT – Psalm 31

I am Never a Dread to God

“I am a dread to my friends…”
Psalm 31:11b

We want to share our burdens with our friends without being a burden.

Let God carry the load…

  • Go to God and tell Him what you need. (V1-5)
  • Pour out all your feelings to Him. (V6-13)
  • Tell Him you trust His timing to lift you up and out. (V15)
  • Praise and exalt Him. (V18-23)
  • Tell Him you put your hope in Him. (V24)

When we put our hope in Him, we won’t put our hope in others.

I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Truth Tuesday

Go to God first, then my friends.  I can never wear out God.

Word Study

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (NIV)

I love love love the KJV translation of verse 24.  Look.  We stand firm and wait with expectation,  He strengthens our mind, will, and heart.

Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart all ye that hope in the LORD.” (KJV)

  • Be of good courage- be firm, resolute, strong (Strong’s 2388)
  • He shall strengthen- make courageous, alert, brave, stout, bold (Strong’s 533)
  • your heart- inner man, will, mind (Strong’s 3824)
  • all ye that hope- wait for, hope for, expect for (Strong’s 3176)

Thankful

I am thankful for the goodness He has stored up for those who fear Him.  Oh that I would be one who fears you Lord!

  1. Lots of good stuff in Psalm 31! Years ago I found Psalm 31: 14/15. It is one of my favorites! I have repeated that Psalm to the Lord in difficult times and like Wendy said, as we repeat Scripture back to the Lord it does assure us. Powerful reminder: When I put my hope in Him, I am less likely to put my hope in others.

  2. This psalm is so packed full! I am in agreement that I need to go to God with my worries and burdens and be less of one to our friends. This was a great reminder to me as I too have been guilty of burdening friends in my past! Much to take in and read again!

  3. Truth is that God is faithful always when I go to him first….Purifying from me from all unrighteousness.

  4. In total agreement with you all.
When we place our hope in the Lord rather than others we will not be disappointed. Relying on God to hear me out is something I have been working on steadily as I grow spiritually. As you know my son and family live in Okinawa. My son is not a great communicator and my dear daughter in law is less of one because of how her life is changing being a mommy. Daily I look to my iMessages or Facebook for something from them. I am sure this is how God feels about some of us. Waiting, hopeing, for just a few minutes of our time to spend with Him.
I liked Wendy’s idea about posting reminders everywhere to help me get into more of prayful way of life.
My truth this rainy Tuesday is when I am missing my family I will think of God missing me.

  5. I am always amazed when I see God working in my life. I have seen him I the past few months directing thing so that I am less fearful for the future. I am confident in you Lord.

  6. I really appreciate this Psalm and the point Wendy made. How different life would be if we took everything to God first and relied on Him 100%. I am thankful we have a patient, loving God !
