TGFABT – Psalm 18

“You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.”
Psalm 18:36

God…

  • Arms me with strength
  • Makes my ways perfect
  • Enables me to balance life in high and frightening places
  • Trains me for battle
  • Gives me victory
  • Sustains me
  • Stoops down to make me great
  • Broaden my path so my ankle don’t turn

Our God is great, isn’t He?

Let’s do our part so He can fully do His.

Truth

I have everything to do with God’s strength manifesting itself in my life.  He will never leave me but will let me “try things on my own.”  I just love Him….

Word Study

” It is God that girdeth me with strength and maketh my way perfect.”
Psalm 18:32

I love the word I gird!  He girds us with strength and makes our way perfect.  What a God!

Gird

  • to encircle or bind with a belt or band
  • to surround; enclose; hem in
  •  to prepare (oneself) for action
  •  to provide, equip, or invest, as with power or strength

Strength

Chayil-khah’-yil
strength, might, efficiency, wealth, army

Perfect

Tamiym taw-meem
Complete, whole, entire, sound, without blemish, full

Thankful

For my view of the lake… more than I could ever ask or imagine.  I am breathless at His generosity.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

… Trusting Him to keep me in safety and perfect peace as I learn to sleep in a new house with new noises.

  1. Oh my there is so much to absorb in this Psalm I need to read multiple times. Such a powerful message David provides all of the ways God stands beside us in times of trouble and raises us up to be able to stand up against evil. He protects us always. Praising God is so important for what he does for us every moment whether we realize it or not. His arms hold us up always.

    1. I agree Vicki! I love how He praises Him and acknowledges that God has given him what he has needed.

  2. I too was enlightened by the statement ” I have everything to do with God fulfilling my life”. If I do not stay connected to God and in sync with Gods laws then I will wander aimlessly and without purpose.
I do a lot of machine embroidery. In order for my projects to look their best I must use a stabilizer to keep the material from stretching or puckering. God is my stabilizer! Without his protection, guidance and presence in my life I am nothing.
But this psalm brings me back to the basics that I must protect myself by giving my life the stabilization of God through prayer, confession, and living as God would see fit.
Enjoy the beautiful sun through the rain clouds this week!
Looking forward to reading your comments this week 🙂 <3

    1. Kim, I love the analogy you made with the stabilizer and God as your stabilizer! That is awesome! I loved Wendy’s point that it is God who gives me strength but that it is truly up to me how strong God makes me. So important to stay in His Word and follow His leading and apply the Word in my life soo that He can strengthen me! SOOOOOO much in this Psalm this week!!! WOW!

  3. Truth Tuesday is no one in my life can be the strong foothold that is my rock and deliverer only my God! He is the constant in my life and never changes his love for me. As I reflect over my life even today as I am writing my comment, I am praying for God’s strength to get me thru another exhausting trial! Don’t know how I would fight my enemies without him. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

  4. I’m not sure why but I don’t have a video stream from Wendy. I too, loved Kim’s comment on the stabilizer. I know just the other night I was letting my imagination run wild. I wasn’t able to sleep and until I prayed and turned it over to the Lord. In my devotion today from Proverbs 31 it talked about worry and to help take our thoughts captive we should ask the question is this what Jesus would say to me? If not, throw it away like you would throw a baseball. I’m going to give it try. Thank you all for your insight! It really helps me.

    1. Ruth,
I too can let my mind wander ..especially at night. Like you I have found praying helps to settle my thoughts so I can go to sleep.

    2. Ruth…thanks for the reminder about praying to stop your mind! My earliest experiences of God being there for me occurred as a child having bad dreams. I had the same dream over and over for along time. On the nights I asked God to not let me dream I did not. Soon I realized that is I prayed nightly the dreams vanished!

  5. Truth : it is up to me how much God can strengthen me! Still thinking about that from yesterday’s video!

  6. Gird is a unique word that I have never heard prior to this week’s study. However, this is a word that means God is providing me with strength and I know I go to God so many times a day and like everyone else especially at night asking him to shield me and protect all the time. Thank you God for always being available!

  7. I am thankful to live in the freedom of the United States and that God is providing a beautiful day off on Friday to take my two grandchildren to the Cleveland Zoo and to have them all to myself to spoil and enjoy! Happy July 4th my friends!

  8. I am thankful for being able to read a book with my granddaughter, Lana who resides in Okinawa last night. Thank you God for facetime!

  9. I noticed David calls God his ROCK 4 times! I want to be as confident as David in God as my ROCK! Verses 4 and 5 show how distressed and anguished David was and yet He put His trust in God and cried out to Him. David’s walk of faith is a perfect example of putting our hope and trust in God to work and move on our behalf.
