Make sure to watch Read Thru the Word Instructional Video. Wendy goes over the how-to’s and other details of the class. You don’t want to miss it!
Read Thru the Word Bible Study consists of four parts:
- Daily reading in the One Year Chronological Bible-NLT
- Daily video teaching by Wendy
- Daily response journal
- Your participation
You will not be emailed the daily lesson because Read thru the Word is a membership study. Bookmark Walking with Women Through the Word in your browser. Each day click on the bookmark, go to Online Studies > RTW to view the day’s teaching video. With each new lesson, the previous lesson is archived in the navigational bar in the right menu bar so you can go back and view a lesson again or for the first time if you missed one. After viewing the video you have the opportunity to share your thoughts about the video and day’s readings in the comments section of the day’s post.
The Bible we use for our study is unique in design. It is chronological. This means it is written in the order of which the events occurred. For example, in the middle of the book of Acts, you will find Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians. You will experience David emotions with him as he runs from Saul and hides in the cave. The Psalms that David authored are in the story of his life written in Samuel. It is not the Bible you grab on your way out the door on the way to church. This Bible is made for study. We are reading the easy to understand, New Living Translation. Click here to see and purchase the One Year Chronological Bible. Let me speak candidly, until I read it in this chronological format, I did not love the Word of God nor have a passion for it that I do now. It reads like a story, a story you want to finish. I can’t imagine where I would be in my walk with the Lord if I had not purchased and read this Bible.
If your are unable to purchase a Bible, you can still participate in the class. The reading schedule can be found at: One Year Chronological Reading-NLT daily reading schedule.
The daily readings can be completed in 15-20 minutes.
Your journal is a crucial part of the Bible study. It is home to all the Lord is teaching you. Respond to the following prompts each day and watch the Word come alive right before your eyes.
- Something Old
Something familiar but you it “heard” in a new way.
- Something New
Something you did not know before the day’s reading.
- Something to Do
Your action response to the day’s reading. (i.e. Is God asking you to forgive someone?)
A Few Helpful Hints
Creative with Your Time
The first time I read through the Bible, I intentionally came to car line 20 minutes early each day so I could complete my reading. You may not have car line but perhaps you have a lunch hour or sit through basketball practice. If you don’t work outside the home you can turn off your favorite show to complete your daily reading.
Grace Grace Grace
You will miss days. Life gets busy. When you miss days, even several in a row, don’t stop reading. After the missed day(s), pick back up with the reading of the current calendar day. As life slows down go back through your journal to the empty pages and make up your reading. Our goal is persistence not perfection. Heaven doesn’t hand out demerits for missed days. It’s OK to take more than one year to read the One Year Bible.
You will not understand everything you read and what you read may disturb you. Don’t stop reading. My favorite verse is Deuteronomy 29:29. Take the time to write it on the inside cover of your Bible. When you get to one of those hard to understand passages flip to the front of your Bible and take a deep breath and read aloud:
“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”
God will reveal what He wants you know when He wants you to know it. When He reveals obey. We can’t become consumed by what we don’t understand.
Set Boundaries for Yourself
Determine a time and place for your reading and do your best to stick to it. Protect your study time within reason. It is important to be flexible in order to accommodate your responsibilities. The daily reading should take 15-20 minutes, depending on how fast or how slow you read.
This is a huge commitment. Ask friends and family to pray for you. Staying active in the comments conversation with the daily video will help you stay on track.
What Can I Expect from this Study?
The number one thing you will receive from Walking with Women through the Word is accountability and support. It is comforting to know others are on the journey with you. It is also comforting to know others are struggling to get all the reading done.
As far as my role in the journey, I am a vessel through which the Holy Spirit will set the stage for our hearts to be changed by the power of the ancient words of scripture. I too am a student, with a desire to be enlightened, inspired, transformed, and surprised.
Feel free to send questions and concerns my way via email firstname.lastname@example.org rather than leaving a question in the comments section. I am a wife and working mother of two busy teenagers and don’t always get the chance to visit the comments section each day.
Websites for additional information
I am student myself. My passion is digging around to find the meaning Hebrew or Greek word. It is also very interesting to read commentaries on subject matter I don’t fully understand.
