A Resurrected Life

A passerby named Simon, who was from Cyrene, was coming in from the countryside just then, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. (Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.)
Mark 15:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

The way to resurrected living:

  • Death to our desires.
  • Death to our dreams.
  • Death to our directions.

Brings life… a resurrected life…with eternal perfection with Christ.

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (ESV)
Mark 8:34

Something New

Matthew 27:52-53

Did the individuals, who raised from their tombs, resume their lives? Did they recognize people? Did people recognize them?

Something to Do

Live the resurrected life Jesus died to give me.

  1. Not only did Jesus who knew no sin, BECOME my sin, take on all my sin in order that I may become the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor 5:21), but it struck me as I was reading that He was SEPARATED from the Father at the cross…I would imagine, for the first time ever! He died for my sin and so that I would no longer be separated from the Father because of my sin. TO DO: Stop living separated from the Father.

From Guzik: How bad was crucifixion? We get our English word “excruciating” from the Roman word “out of the cross” …

“Consider how heinous sin must be in the sight of God, when it requires such a sacrifice” (Clark)

Reading Guzik’s commentary on what actually happens to a person physically during crucifixion was so HARD to read – I knew most of it already – but it was very impact today.

  2. One of the most detailed depictions of Jesus’ death is in the Passion of the Christ, by Mel Gibson. Wow. And I loved how it displayed the mother/child connection. Very powerful movie.

Also, when I read this section of the Bible, I want to sing the songs of “Jesus Christ Superstar” as they tell the story!
