RTW November 2
Meanwhile
Meanwhile, Peter was in the courtyard below.
Mark 14:66a
My Takeaways
Something Old
Jesus’ enemies convicted Him with lies. Our enemy, the father of lies, is trying to convict us with lies. His tactics have changed because they still work.
Something New
Meanwhile: in the intervening time; during the interval.
What am I doing in the meanwhile as we wait for Jesus to return?
While Jesus is on trial in the world, am I:
- Standing far from Him.
- Denying I ever knew Him.
Something to Do
Spend my meanwhile getting closer to God through prayer, His Word, obedience, and worship.
“Do I choose silence over truth?” Silence is denial … this is what I was convicted of in today’s reading – and oh, Lord help me and forgive me, I am too often silent – not bold in my faith – in declaring “Jesus is Lord”. By not declaring this, I am denying him.
“But Jesus remained silent” Matthew 14:63. He didn’t defend Himself, He allowed the accusations to come, the lies to be said about Him – and He remained silent. Spurgeon says: “His was the silence of patience, not of indifference; of courage, not of cowardice”…. too often I want to defend myself – or assert my rights, which is something I’m dealing with right now with my old landlord (praise the Lord, He delivered me into a new home of my very own!) … It’s definitely a different context in my situation, but I’m convicted of my need to “remain silent”….
Glad you got a new home!
When I couldn’t keep Martha and Mary straight, that’s how I remember who is who, by thinking “Martha, Martha, Martha!” from Brady Bunch….haha.
