When It Seems You Don’t Have Enough
“How much bread do you have?” he asked.
Mark 6:38a
My Takeaways
Something Old
Mark 6:46. Jesus continues to set the example to be alone and pray.
Something New
The willing get to see God work.
Jesus saw the need. The disciples saw the need.
Jesus saw a solution. The disciples saw a solution.
When it seems you don’t have enough?
- Place all that you have before God. (Mark 6:41)
- Trust God with what you have.
- Ask Him to bless it. (Mark 6:41)
- Watch God multiple. (Mark 6:42)
Something to Do
Obey and trust.
I love John’s re-telling of the feeding of the 5,000. John 6:11: Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Giving thanks to God brings provision.
*Thank Him for the small things (Zechariah 4:10) There wasn’t much to eat – and the disciples focused on the little that there was instead of thanking God for it.
*Thank Him for the seemingly impossible things – because with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)
In all things give thanks.
I’m in the middle of seeing God work in my willingness to let go of my own concept of how things should be done (i.e., how I should handle a situation in my life)… and He is faithful!
Jesus asked Peter: “Why did you doubt me?” (Matthew 14:31). Doubt: to be divided in two. True faith is single-mindedly focused on Jesus. Doubt should require evidence. There is no evidence in my life – and there is no evidence in God’s Word – that justifies me doubting God’s faithfulness! He has proven time and again His faithfulness and love toward me – and even if He didn’t continue to do so in my life – He did it once and for all at the CROSS! That alone should be enough to assuage my doubts – And yet I doubt He will provide. I doubt His love at times. Oh Lord, help my unbelief!
When it seems like I don’t have enough – Jesus is enough!
