One Mouth, Two Ears, Willing Spirit

“To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”
Matthew 13:12

My Takeaways

Something Old

Jesus has unlocked a mystery for us in today’s reading.

Listen. Be willing. Obey. Expect.

Do I want to know the mysteries of the Kingdom?

  • Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (ESV) 2 Timothy 2:15
  • For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (ESV) Philippians 2:13

Something New

“The parable conceals truth from those who are either too lazy to think or too blinded by prejudice to see. It puts the responsibility fairly and squarely on the individual. It reveals truth to him who desires truth; it conceals truth from him who does not wish to see the truth.” (Barclay)

Something to Do

Listen. Be willing. Obey. Expect.
