Greed Over God Is A Never Good Thing
Then He said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Luke 12:15
My Takeaways
Something Old
Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Luke 11:28
I’m blessed [happy, fortunate] when I practice what God teaches me.
Something New
About riches…
- It’s foolish to store up earthly treasures and neglect a heavenly relationship with God. “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12:21 He wasn’t a fool because he had money; he was fool because he hadn’t considered eternity.
- We become rich in God when we become poor in the world.
“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.” Luke 12:33 - Having money and materials isn’t wrong, as long as we don’t love them more than we love God and our desire for them doesn’t replace our desire to advance His Kingdom.
“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Luke 12:34
Giving is the antidote to greed.
“Earn as much as you can. Save as much as you can. Give as much as you can.” – John Wesley
Something to Do
“Earn as much as you can. Save as much as you can. Give as much as you can.”
Great lesson. I always had a tough time with this lesson and that cleared it up!
