RTW October 15
Free, Free, Free
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
My Takeaways
Something Old
Do I listen gladly to the words of God? (John 8:47)
Something New
This freedom includes:
- Freedom from the powerless life of habitual sin. (Romans 6:1)
- Freedom from the condemnation of sin. (Romans 8:1)
- Freedom from the power that leads to death. (Romans 8:2)
- Freedom from the final judgement. (Revelation 20:11-15. Galatians 2:16)
- Freedom to live the life of holiness. (Romans 6:22)
Therefore:
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. (ESV) 1 Peter 2:16
Something to do
Live free. Confess and repent of my sin, but don’t allow it steal my freedom.
“I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!” John 8:58
Jesus identifies himself as the eternal God with this statement. My pastor was just preaching on the eternality of God this past Sunday and it just blows my mind! The triune God existed in eternity past, not created but Creator, not made but Maker. Jesus knew everything I would do, every sin, before I was created. And here I am still!
Oh the story of Mary & Martha gets me every time. I seem to not be able to let go of my “Martha-ness”, which is funny since my name is Mary LOL. “But Martha was distracted…” I am so very easily distracted from Jesus – even by doing good things for Him. One of the things I do is listen to Christian podcasts when getting ready for work – this is a good thing as I learn a lot – but it is a way for me to not deal with things with the Lord – very distracting – and I’ve felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit to commune with Him during this time…. so this morning that is what I will do.
