Protect The Usual
But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem.
Daniel 6:10a
My Takeaways
Something Old
I wonder why they set the edict for only 30 days. (Daniel 6:7)
“But if there were the penalty of being cast into a den of lions, I am afraid the prayer-meeting would be postponed for a month, owing to pressing business, and manifold engagements of one kind and another.” (Spurgeon)
Something New
Jealousy stirs up trouble.
Isn’t interesting, they say it takes 30 days to create a habit or ritual and the leaders named the new edict for 30 days.
Defining moments reveal who we are.
Usual: habitual or customary; commonplace; everyday
- Usual place
- Usual path
- Usual posture
- Usual prayer (prayer and praise should go hand-in-hand)
Nothing changed for Daniel.
Has something changed my usual?
Protect my usual at all cost. Daniel’s usual threatened his life.
What is worth sacrificing my usual?
Something to Do
Get back to my usual ASAP.
Hi all,
Wendy, the word “usual” jumped right off the page for me too. Only in a different direction–I have worked hard to make this study a “usual” and to have my prayer and study time be a standard, number one thing for me. I want people to remember me by that. “Usual” can be a boring term too–as in we need to change things up, but I have been saying a prayer/list of verses and affirmations all summer, and it can get a little repetitive, but so many good things have come of it that I now appreciate the usual!
Where is everyone lately? No commenters!
I also liked this:
“I, Daniel (Jennifer), learned from reading the Word of the Lord…”
Daniel 9:1
I miss the comments, too but am also not one to leave a lot of comments!! I appreciate the “usual” and am in a season, that hearing God’s voice regularly comes from RTW. We are in a changing season in our lives with retirement, change of commitments and obligations, and weariness in our Christian walk, but we still feel God’s faithfulness and am clinging to that and bracing for the future…both excited and a little timid!!!
