Phony Faith
“But still you would not return to me,” says the LORD.
Amos 4:10d
My Takeaways
Something Old
Do I fail to learn?
Why won’t I return to God?
Do I make up my own guidelines and ways of living?
Something New
Fat cows. Really? This area was known for producing large and healthy life stock.
A larger woman was usually a display of a wealthy indulgent woman, and they used their influence to oppress other women. God was ready to bring them to justice.
Something to Do
Live God’s way. Things go so much better for me.
“Prepare to meet your God in judgment, you people of Israel!” Amos 4:12
Very frightening. God wants a relationship with me. I want him to say well done my faithful servant. Not WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!
Something Old- God can use anyone; He just wants a willing and open heart. God used Amos, a shepherd from Tekoa in Judah. Amos 1:1
The lies and tactics of the enemy have not changed; they have just been recycled and enhanced. Amos 2:4- “… They have been lee astray by the same lies that deceived their ancestors.”
Hold tightly to the lessons in the Bible for they are important in these present times as they were in Old Testament days.
Something To Do- Be a harbinger of justice. Amos 5:23-24- Away with your noisy hymns of praise! I will nit listen to the music of your harps. Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.
Pray for restoration and repentance for my city and nation. Amos 5:6- You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.
