Listen For The Lord’s Laugh

But the Lord just laughs, for He sees their day of judgement coming.
Psalm 37:13

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Don’t fret… don’t worry over evil doers.
  • Trust in the Lord and do good.
  • Take delight in the Lord.
  • Commit everything you do to Him.
  • Be still in His presence.
  • Stop being angry.
  • Listen for God’s laugh.

“If God can laugh at the wicked, shouldn’t we be able at least to refrain from being agitated by them?” (Boice)

Something New

The LORD laughs at the plot of the wicked. I wonder what God’s laugh sounds like.

Something to Do

Leave justice in God’s hand and enjoy God.

  1. Psalm 35: The Lord fights on my behalf. He is my Defender!

Psalm 36: God’s unfailing love is beyond measure. He cares for ALL of his creation. His desire is to pour out this unfailing love on those who love Him. It breaks my heart to know that not everyone (especially my family members) desire to know His love.

Psalm 37: Don’t worry about the wicked. God is dealing with them. Keep my eyes focused on God. I loved Wendy’s lesson on this Psalm this morning. I wrote the same things in my journal about what to focus on – Trust in the Lord, take delight in the Lord, commit everything to the Lord, be still and wait patiently for the Lord. It can be difficult when the wicked around us are prospering and we are struggling … but God’s promise here in this Psalm says that if we trust in Him, we “will live safely in the land and prosper” (v3) and we will “possess the land” (v9, 11) and “live in peace and prosperity” (v11). It is good to remember this when I’m not getting what I think I deserve or what I desire ….

In all of these psalms, God is our Rescuer, Defender. He vindicates us. He goes to battle for us. And God ALWAYS wins!!

To Do: Stop trying to fight the battle.

  2. I had much of the same today. I also have family problems and just yesterday something started to brew and I came to my husband and asked him to hold me accountable to not joining in, but to show Jesus. These verses today REALLY put into words my heart’s desire!!

  3. -I, too, noted all the things to do from today’s reading. Trust in the LORD and do good. Take delight in the LORD. Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him and he will help you. Be still in the presence of the LORD and wait patiently for him. Put your hope in the LORD. Travel steadily along his path.
-I was also struck by David’s statement that he confessed his sin and was deeply sorry for what he had done. (Ps 38:18) Oh, may I be deeply sorry for my sins. The word deeply is what got me.
    – I also noted the verse from Ps 36:6 that says, “You care for people and animals alike.” I just love that God not only cares for people who He created in his own image but also the animals that He created as well.

      1. Same here, I love that verse and use it when praying for a pet that is ill or needing protection.
