My Takeaways

Something Old

We, as followers of Jesus, are a royal priesthood.

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

  • And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. 1 Peter 2:4-5
  • But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

We are called the sprinkle ourselves, not have a “state of Christians.”

  • Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Matthew 22:37-39
  • “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:13-16
  • Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age. (TPT) Matthew 28:19-20

Something New

Sanctuary cities weren’t for people to be saved from accountability for their crime, but a place to stay until justice was served. The accused had to face their crime.

  1. I’m so thankful that God spoke to me this morning in His Word. My nugget is so far away from Wendy’s but somewhat ties in with it. I was focused on the cities of refuge and immediately thought of Psalm 91:2 “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust” and Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”. He is my shelter. He is the one worthy of my trust and my confidence. I can run to Him when I am afraid, when I don’t know what to do, and especially at my job where I am challenged with gossip and slander, I can run to Him rather than a coworker!

    I did love Wendy’s comment about the cities of refuge not being a get out of jail free card-which makes me all the more thankful for the Cross.

    My to do: Run to God

    1. LOL-it’s still early and I have not had enough coffee. To tie it in with Wendy’s lesson-if I view my job/office as my territory, and I am engaging in gossip/slander or even being the bringer of it, I am not caring for the inheritance I have been given. I am not salt and light, nor am I attractive to others. It is a poor example of how I am living and not honoring Christ. Working on this

  2. I am challenged with this lessontodsy with our neighbors. We live in a new community full of young families and not many believers. We invite them to church, and share things with them but we’ve been here for over 2 years now. God has confirmed that this is our lot, our territory and he placed us here for a reason. We’ve become close to our next door neighbors and it’s been on my heart lately to go deeper with her as to why she had turned from her faith. To get to know more of her story so I’ve been praying about it. It’s hard just to start a conversation about faith when I know it’s been a sore spot in her life due to her upbringing. I’m going to reach out and hopefully she will open a little. I’ve been sending her songs and encouraging texts which I never really did too much before. Praying for the wisdom and confidence to share God’s great love for not only her but everyone I know and meet! ❤️

    1. I’ll be praying for you in this. Praying that God gives you courage and that he is already at work softening her heart.

    2. I prayed for you about this just now. I would encourage you to be patient and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as you reach out to this neighbor. Continue to love her in the Lord no matter how she responds. Be a good friend without tying the friendship to whether or not she accepts the Lord. In my experience it can take time and she will be watching how you respond to her especially if she resists talking about spiritual things at times. Will you still be her friend? Our responsibility is to share Christ with or without words but we cannot MAKE someone accept Christ. That is something only the Holy Spirit can do. We just need to do our part and leave the rest to Him, but not reject the person if they do not accept Christ in our timing. My husband and I prayed for and witnessed to extended family members for 20 years before even one came to Christ. It was mostly without words as they rejected us for a time when we shared with words. Then we found out 2 more came to Christ. We are still praying for the rest and trying to be patient and love them well in the Lord, looking for those opportunities when we can share with words.

      Whew! That was a lot! Take from it what is helpful to you in your situation.

  3. My takeaway today was from Joshua 21:43-45. Not one of all the good promises of God to Israel were left unfulfilled. He is a promise keeping God. He is faithful and trustworthy. He helps conquer all our enemies. Trust Him today to do what He has said and to help me conquer the enemy in my life.

    I also noted that all the land allotted to the Levites had pastureland surrounding it. God gave them what they needed to raise and manage the animals for sacrifice. God to will provide all I need to do the work he has given me to do.

    1. My takeaway today landed right on yours haneg20. Over the last 40 years God has shown much generosity, forgiveness, grace, mercy, faithfulness. strength and powerfulness, but most of all his persistent love to each and every Israelite is what really stood out to me. God never leaves his people. His promises are true. God always shows up! That is something I can always count on! He will never abandon me as long as I continue to trust and obey!

  4. I, too, zeroed in on the fact that it was noted that God kept all His promises.

    ~Something To Do: Thank God that I can trust Him to keep all His promises and that everything He has spoken comes true. Also praise Him that He is the Lord of rest.

  5. I know the battle is the Lords, know the Lords promises, well, when your in the heat of battle and Satan whispers evil in the ears of your neighbors, words of accusation towards me, and they yell those accusations at me, it is hard to stand there and take the verbal abuse.
    (2 to be exact whom I have shared the gospel with both of them) and especially another neighbor whom I have trusted, I feel like I’m on the chopping block. This has been a couple of weeks where Satan has bombarded and trying to ruin my testimony. I have prayed for them, asked the Lord to silence their mouth but to no avail. I usually don’t ask for prayer, hope this is not pride, so I humbly request for prayer!!

    1. Praying that a God will form a hedge of fire around you and have His way. Be still and know that He is God. Psalm 46:10

  6. Joshua 21:44- God gave them rest on every side. Let’s go to God for physical, emotional and spiritual rest.

    Joshua 21:41- All the tribes gave a portion of their towns and pasture land to the Levites.

    To Do- Be a cheerful giver. Don’t be scared of giving out a portion of what I have received. If I truly believe that God is my source and not money, then I know that He will replenish my barns and storehouses.

    2 Cor 9:6-7 (ESV) The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
