How To Act After The Exodus

“Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”
Exodus 14:12

My Takeaways

Something Old

Sometimes I have to take the long way to my promise.

Something New

When the exodus looks different than expected

  • Accept the detour (Exodus 13:17)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Don’t be afraid. (Exodus 14:13)
For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.  Isaiah 41:13
  • Stand Still (Exodus 14:13)
“Be still, and know that I am God!” Psalm 46:10
  • Watch the Lord (Exodus 14:13)
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. 2 Timothy 4:18a
  • Stay calm. (Exodus 14:14)
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.” (NASB) John 14:1

Trust His delays rather than doubting His ways.

Something to Do

Don’t grumble after my exodus.

  1. Keep my eyes on God, not the enemy or the problem. I panicked when I get my eyes off God. Instead…
    Don’t be afraid.
    Stand still.
    Watch the Lord rescue me.
    He will fight for me.
    Stay calm.
When He says move – move!

Great instruction by Moses here for when I am panicked and fearful.

  2. ~Remembering what the Lord has done in the past is important. It can get me through hard times and help me keep my focus on Him rather than my circumstances. How can I remember what God has done in the past and how He has delivered me and my family?
~The Song of Delliverance has many verses of praise and recounting who God is and what He has done.
~The Israelites had the pillar of cloud and fire for direction and assurance of God’s presence. I have the Holy Spirit and the Word.
~God sometimes allows hardship so that when He provides deliverance, I and others, will see His glory and know that He is the LORD. (Ex 14:18)
~The Proverbs Verse Wendy quoted is my life verse.

  3. I love the praise song that is sung after the Red Sea experience! It was so good to just think about how God is described. Just a list of a few- He triumphs gloriously, my strength, my song, He gives me victory, my God, warrior, glorious in power, smashes the enemy, greatness of your majesty, overthrows those who rise against Him, unleashed blazing fury, consumes them, glorious in holiness, whi is like you, awesome in splendor, performing great miracles, with unfailing love you lead, redeemed his people, guides them to His sacred home, will plant them in His own mountain, reigns forever and ever. There is a lot there to think on!

  4. My take away was Ex. 14:14– The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.

I need this in my life right now. As I read Wendy’s notes 3 of the 5 ideas are what I am focusing on right now. Accept the detour, Stand still, and Stay calm. Just reinforcement for me to continue what I’m doing right now. Also, adding Be silent. 🙂

  5. I am in a wait right now, so I appreciate Wendy’s sentence, “Sometimes I have to take the long way to my promise.” In my wait, I am learning patience, learning to depend more on God, and deepening my faith. God meets us right where we are, whatever the circumstances. He is right here waiting with me and using my wait for good.

I find the whole story of Moses’ life fascinating. In addition, we are studying Moses in my adult Sunday school class, so RTW and my class, called Faith Meets Life, are reinforcing each other. We are using Adam Hamilton’s MOSES, the Reluctant Prophet as our resource. It’s excellent if anyone wants to know more.

  6. I’m playing catch up this week due to my family being hit with the flu bug. I thought about not going back and typing all of this but I believe the Holy Spirit wants me to share.
    The Lord is my strength and my song;
    He has given me victory.
    Exodus 15:2

Since starting RTW again this year and being consistent, I can feel myself changing. I noticed last night that I am more compassionate and feel calmer. I have been more loving and noticed when to keep my mouth shut. It hit me to reflect forva moment on how God is definitely working in me through consistent reading of His word. I feel more positive and I’m trusting him more, letting things go. Today’s reading was awesome. God is fighting for me! My marriage, parenting, finances, my health, He is fighting for it all! I have to stand still, stay calm and watch how he rescues me! My trust is growing because I am not worrying as I was about all of those parts of my life. I know freedom in these areas takes time and Exodus doesn’t happen overnight. My Pastor is doing a series called “Forged” and he said “we are becoming everyday”. God’s created word is causing us to become who He created us to be one step at a time. We are stepping into who we are becoming. I might still be struggling but I am now struggling in the right direction. God’s word actually creates obedience. We are being forged in our relationship with Jesus. The reading started today with the moment of salvation. We were given a new identity-in that moment we became something that we will continue becoming over a lifetime. We are exactly where we are supposed to be…free, alive, saved, becoming. There is such a freedom from pressure in this assurance. God is working/fighting and we am right where we need to be. Spending time with Him in his word everyday.

God by his word turned my worry into a song. Almost everyday that I read a song pops into my head. I’ve created a 2019 RTW Playlist and this is tangible proof that God has turned my worry into a song. I can listen to the playlist (Sing to the Lord vs 15:21) and praise and worship my Abba Father and remember his work and miracles in my life!

    My to do:Obey.
