Dealing With The Heap

The Egyptians piled them into great heaps, and a terrible stench filled the land.
Exodus 8:14

My Takeaways

Something Old

God killed all the frogs, but didn’t remove them or their stench, the aftermath. God does the same thing with our sin. We are forgiven, He removes our sin, however, we must deal with the aftermath… the stench.

How do we deal with our sin? Pile them up in a heap?

  • Recognize our sin.
  • Repent of our sin.
  • Work hard not repeat our sin.
  • Make things right with others.
  • Seek professional help if needed.

When we don’t deal with our sin, it stinks up the place.

Something New

How many “plagues” does it take before I submit to the Lord?

Something to Do

Deal with my heap.

  1. I’m looking forward to the FB Live on Tuesday. Thank you Wendy for that confirmation about seeking professional help. I’ve often wondered if it meant I wasn’t trusting God fully if I sought Christian counseling for help dealing with some things. I love how God confirms things again and again.

Something that stuck out to me was how did the magicians actually perform the first few miracles as well? Did God give them the power too? Was it part of His Plan?

Have a wonderful Sunday RTW friends!

    1. Thanks for sharing. My pastor spent the last 10 Sunday’s of 2018 on a Behold Your God Study of God’s attributes. I really enjoyed seeing this applied in Exodus.

  2. Something Old
Interesting to note that the wizards were able to duplicate destructive plagues, probably through Satan’s power, but they did not turn the bloody water clean again. Satan does not perform wonders that include helping or healing….only harming and hurting.

    Something New
The particular choice of plagues most likely had to do directly with existing deities that the Egyptians worshipped. This made the specifics more important to the Egyptians as it was further proof that God was more powerful than any god they followed.

    Something To Do
Exodus 8:25. Pharaoh attempted to offer a compromise. The enemy always urges us to compromise. We need to make a clean break when it involves sin and the pursuit of freedom. I believe this includes sins such as worrying . This is especially challenging for me right now. I feel like I attempt to “do better”, but deliberately allow a little “wiggle room” for a bit of fretting! Almost as though I think it wouldn’t be right to not agonize just a tad about the really important things. I take comfort in the fact that the admonitions in the scriptures about worry are always given in an encouraging way, never in a shaming tone. But one of the strongest reasons for the command to not fear, is that it points out something of great importance. When we are anxious we are inevitably revealing the fact that we are looking to someone or something other than Jesus Christ Himself to sustain, encourage or uphold us. We are not truly trusting in Him. Many times a day I find myself “laying my Issacs down”. They are all worthy and wonderful and God wants me to love them, but He does not want me to worship them or to look to them to be my ALL.
