When….
When you arrive in Canaan, the land I am giving you as your own possession, I may contaminate some of the houses in your land with mildew.
Leviticus 14:34
My Takeaways
Something Old
“It was probably from this text that the leprosy has been generally considered to be a disease inflicted immediately by God himself; but it is well known that in Scripture God is frequently represented as doing what, in the course of his providence, he only permits or suffers to be done.” ~Adam Clarke
- When… we will get to where God wants us to go.
- I may… He will allow providentially what He sees fit.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
Waiting well teaches us to trust His delays rather than doubt His ways.
Something New
Something to Do
~The scapegoat and transferring sins to it is a picture of our sins being transferred to Jesus. The scapegoat carries the sins of the people far away and that reminds me of Psalm 103:12. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” I praise God for providing my once and for all scapegoat, Jesus Christ!
~Again in today’s reading, it is noted that Moses did “exactly as the LORD commanded”. A reminder again that I, too, need to obey exactly as the Lord commands.
The Day of Atonement Leviticus 16:1-34
The blood of bulls or goats could never remove sin, only cover sin for yet another year. Only Jesus Christ could bring full atonement from our sinful fallen world that started way back with Adam and Eve. Jesus Christ-through his death and ressurection-was the perfect sacrifce once and for all. In his death, he became my substitute bearing all my sins. His burial was my scapegoat, taking my sins away with him. Through his resurrection he saved me, giving me His righteousness and ushering me into the very presence of God. This is THE GOOD NEWS! It is
impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins; but, through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, I have been sanctified once for all time.
Amen!
I’ve been getting so much out of Leviticus! I’ve been reading in Hebrews each day and it’s so amazing to see how all we’re reading about in Leviticus is totally taken care of With the new covenant with Jesus. I have gained a fresh and new appreciation for Jesus’ sacrifice and what all it means and frees me from. Who would have guessed I could have grown and learned so much from Leviticus?!
Yes this year more than ever I have new appreciation for Jesus’ sacrifice.
I feel the same way, it’s a whole new appreciation. Loving it too!!
I couldn’t agree with you more. I too have been reading in Hebrews and have found it all to be amazing
My first thoughts were about the Canaanite’s, the curse that was on Ham and his descendants. They were a wicked, idolatrous peoples, inhabited by all the Hivites, Gergashites, Jebusites…….well all the itites, enemies of the Hebrews. Even though God promised them that land, evil sinful large (giants), fierce peoples resided there. They were gross, unclean, with vile perversion which reflected in their lifestyle and way of life. In my opinion, because of how it was so infected there, even the air, mildew was the judgment God placed on the Canaanite’s..
God was warning the Hebrews they had a huge job ahead of them. Everything they had just learned about mildew would be put into practice! God drove the Canaanite’s out but their filth remained behind and before they could inhabit those houses, they had to be purified according to the process stated in Leviticus!
Lesson; we must keep our inner man filled with God’s word, live a life pleasing to Him, keep our temple clean from the ways of the world and its strongholds.
Luke 11:24 When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through places and seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, I will return to the house I left. On its return, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself.
In the coming months of study, much will be revealed that many strongholds remained that hinder the Israelites.
Well said!
This lesson today is close to my heart. We are very familiar with mold. We had mold in a house we lived in when my daughter was an infant. Here 8 years later, symptoms came about and she was diagnosed with neuro-toxic mold poisoning. I have asked God why, and thought maybe it was my punishment for sin of moving to that home against God’s will. I have felt much guilt and regret and at fault for her health because of all this. But the verse “When you arrive in ____________, I may contaminate the House with mildew. I mean, that clearly speaks of the mold being something that God may have allowed in our lives for His reasons and I may never know why, but I need to trust His Plan, realize I’m not that powerful to have messed up His plan, and trust in His faithfulness to restore all things including my daughters health. We just got good news about her progress at her 1 year checkup last week! My to do is what Wendy mentioned…
“Trust WHAT He is doing, rather than doubting HOW or WHY He’s doing it.” Amen Wendy. ❤️
