Discipline Is A Good Thing
As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as His own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?
Hebrews 12:7
My Takeaways
Something Old
Will I keep the faith, even if it means I see Jesus before I see the fulfillment of a promise?
All these people died still believing what God had promised them. Hebrews 11:13
Something New
Discipline brings about
- Confession, confess and repent of sin we have not yet dealt with.
- Cleansing and purification.
- Creates opportunity to be more like Christ.
Discipline is proof of
- God’s love.
- God’s perfecting work in us.
- God’s commitment to intimacy with us.
Something to Do
Linda, could we have the verse for the 1st discipline and the verse Wendy refers to as the 2nd discipline….a father’s ongoing discipline. I am not sure which verse is considered the 2nd mention of discipline. Thanks!

Got it! Thank you so much!
My Takeaways: Keep the Faith
Something Old: “What is faith?” Faith “is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see” (11:1, 2).
Something New: Why does faith matter so much? Without it I have nothing! Holding on to God’s words, believing they are true and will continue to come true is the only hope I have and a big part of my relationship with God. In fact, “It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that there is a God and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him” (v.6).
Something To Do: Live by faith in Christ alone. Be sure of what I am hoping for and certain of what I do not see.
