RTW November 4
It Was 9:00 am
It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him.
Mark 15:25
My Takeaway
Something Old
Thank you, Simon, for carrying the cross for my Lord.
Something New
Something to Do
Thank you, God, for sending Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for giving Your life, so that I might have life.
I was struck today by gratitude for Jesus staying on the cross. In each account it tells of people taunting him to come down from the cross and save himself if he was really God. He could have come down and shown them who he was yet he continued to surrender and obey his fathers plan. I am so grateful he stayed even in humiliation until death to provide salvation for me. I was also blown away by the fact that he died for the salvation of the very ones who were killing him. Many of those believed in him after he died as were granted salvation…wow! He is my model for forgiveness and love…I have so far to go in this area!! Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice and example of perfect love and forgiveness.
Theee of the four gospels record that when Jesus released his spirit, the curtain in the sanctuary of the temple was torn into from top to bottom. (Mark 15:37-38, Matthew 27:50-51, Luke 23:45-46) Jesus’ sacrifice was sufficient for ALL our sins. We are no longer separated from God. No more curtain, no more sacrifices, no representative to approach God for us. Jesus took the burden of sin for you and for me. We can freely approach God. He actually resides in us through the Holy Spirit. I am in awe.
My Takeaways: My Savior, Jesus Christ
Something Old: Reading about Jesus’ crucifixion today was heart breaking. Jesus died the most horrible, painful death known to man for me. “Truly, this was the Son of God!” Matthew 27:54 I must live my life reflecting on this truth. I can’t live my life like business as usual. Jesus is the Son of God, my life must be lived for Him and nothing less. He gave everything to gain my forgiveness. My life should look different in light of knowing that Jesus died for me.
Something New: Every passage of Scripture that I have read in the chronological Bible has built up to this point, the crucifixion of Jesus. It is the focal point of the entire Bible. What I read today is the most important and greatest story ever told. All the Old Testament pictures pointed to this heavenly reality, when God would take on human flesh and live with us. Jesus fulfilled every Old Testament promise of redemption and picture of redemption when His body was broken and His blood poured out for man. “It is finished.”
Jesus gave up his spirit. The curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom at Jesus’ death separating the Most Holy Place. The barrier between God and humanity was removed. I am free to approach God because of Jesus’ sacrifice for my sins. The old sacrificial system is no longer necessary. Jesus provided a new way to God and eternal life. I want to stop this minute and everyday to take time and thank God for sending His Son to die on my behalf. Where would I be in life without Him?
Something To Do: Daily meditate on what Jesus did for me on the Cross. Live my life knowing that “Jesus is the Son of God!”
No words..Just tears of joy and thanksgiving that Jesus never stopped pursuing me and forgave me of my sins and I am His !
