Something to Do
Identify my gifts and use them for God’s glory and the good of His Kingdom.
Love! That is what stood out today. 1Cor 12:31-13:13 is jammed full of what love is and what it should look like. God has been challenging me over the last month about how loving or not loving I am….in my home, church, among strangers, toward Him. I have felt Him calling me to make ‘love’ my word and focus of 2019. I want to study various passages on love and take time to breakdown and meditate on each of loves sescriptions in 1 Cor 13. 1 Cor 12:31b says that the way of life that is best is love…I want to living that life!
My Takeaways: More to say to the Corinthian Church
Something Old: Today I read about Paul’s writing concerning the role of women, the Lord’s Supper, spiritual gifts and of course his famous description of real love. 1Corinthians 13 is a very familiar passage, one I often hear in weddings. Love-the greatest of all gifts is offered to everyone and is an attribute of God himself. When I can serve others totally with no thought of myself I show the kind of love (agape) Paul is writing about. When I thoroughly understand love I begin to see how God works. I want to allow God’s Spirit to produce this kind of love in my heart and life. So I can display it to everyone. Love is what being a Christian is all about it. Without it everything I do adds up to nothing!
Something New: In the midst of my busy and distracted life Paul’s words regarding the Lord’s Supper stood out to me today. I don’t want to be the Christian he is addressing in today’s reading. When I partake of the Lord’s Supper my heart must be right. It’s a time to renew my commitment to serve him. As I drink the cup and eat the bread, I must reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and look forward to his return. Communion isn’t something I just do out of habit. It has great significance and purpose. By taking time to purposely thank Jesus for what He did and what it means for me should be just what I need to love and serve him better.
Something to do: Participate in the Lord’s Supper regularly. Proclaim the Lord’s death whenever I participate in the Lord’s Supper. Examine myself before partaking in the Lord’s Supper. Remember love is an action and the greatest of all commands.
