Something Old

  • It is OK not to understand.
  • It is OK to ask for instruction.
  • Asking is a sign of strength.

Maybe we are the ones who need the questions answered.

Maybe we are the ones who need to answer someone’s questions.

Something New

The Holy Spirit can reach anyone who is willing to be reached.

Acts 8:13

Something to Do

    Something Old: I read about two conversions today – the Eunuch and Saul. God reaches people in different ways sometimes a person comes to God in a quiet experience like the Eunuch. Sometimes people come to God in an awesome manner like Paul. There is no right or wrong way to accept Jesus. God brings people to Jesus in many different ways. What’s important here is that the church was continuing to grow bringing both Jews and Gentiles to believe in the Good News of Jesus Christ.

    Something New: Acts 8:14-17 “.. as soon as they arrived, they prayed for these new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit had not yet come up on any of them, for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John lay their hands upon these Believers and they received the Holy Spirit.” I pondered on these verses today and found myself wondering, when do we receive the Holy Spirit? When we are baptized? The moment we first believed? Or is it a work in process after we are converted, then get baptized, we go through a process and during this process the Holy Spirit enters our life? I’ve always thought and feel like the Bible clearly teaches that the Holy Spirit enters a person at the time of their conversion, but these verses found me questioning when all this takes place. How about Saul,when did he receive the Holy Spirit after he received his sight, when he was baptised or after spending time with believers? I need to look to my RTW friends for some answers. Can anyone share their thoughts with me about what is actual meant in these verses?

    Something To Do: Acts 9:31 “The believers were walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.” I mediated on this verse for a while today and realized the value it has on my life today. I want to walk like that-with the balance of walking in fear and comfort.

  2. Lkennedy, I love that you share your thoughts and questions with the RTW family. I always learn from you and you inspire me to read & research a little more. I found this answer to be satisfying… Go to GotQuestions.org and search “When/How do we receive the Holy Spirit?” There is even a cute little animated video to watch. (Still working to catch up, but I’ll be back on track this weekend!)

    1. THANK YOU DARENA! I will check it out. I’m laughing out loud about you being techno-challenged because I feel like I am too. I don’t even own a computer!!!! So are you wondering how I post? Get this — I do it all on my phone!!! Let me tell you, that’s a real challenge. I use only my index finger and peck away. One day I am going to splurge and invest in a lap top.
